sw engineering manager,
Was that time of the year to pull the boats out of the lake. Was reminded once again how disappointed I am in the uselessness of the hitch camera on my F150. Every time I go to park or switch to forward, it changes the camera view.

When I am trying to stop and line up the hitch it commonly involves a couple of attempts at stopping, checking how much it rolled when shifted to park, going forward an inch or two, trying again.

Same thing when backing boat trailers into the water. Sometimes it takes more than one try. Sometimes you have to stop and go to park to switch the truck to off-road mode on a slippery boat ramp.

@Ford Motor Company Please make a mode where the camera stays on the view selected FOREVER! NO MATTER WHAT GEAR I SELECT.

Also use the parking brake to prevent rolling after putting her in park.

As another complaint. I like to open my door and pick a spot on the ground to see if the truck drifts or, if I want to move a inch or so. But, if you open the door the truck goes into Park. Wouldn't be so bad if the hitch assist pro that was promised in the owners manual in 2022 worked. It is easier to hitch my trailers with my 2011 SuperDuty.

Also why does my camera on my Lightning catch more dirt and drops on water than my 2011. I've had the 2022 Lightning long enough to wipe the rear camera off before attempting to use it for the trailer or even backing up. I have thought about making a visor for it.

Anyway, I digress.

Hmmmm, I seem to recall several of us tested this, but I was not able to get it to work, possibly because the position of my trailer, truck and house might be causing my experience to fail.

I'll try again in an area where there isn't as much interference.

I think an update enabled it, and then a FORScan change turned it on.

Do you recall a thread or advice on what to look for in Forscan settings wise?

Enable MFCAH, and leave everything else set the way it is. Mine was already on, likely from an update I got at the dealership, not OTA. I pushed the button, and it looked for the trailer.

If you have your seatbelt latched it won’t go into park when you open the door.

sw engineering manager,
Set your camera delay on. It'll stay on longer.
Some transitions still are instant. Like when you shift into Park.
Would be better if it just left the camera alone.

For those suggesting the parking brake to avoid the rolling, sure that might help, but hard to know it worked without the camera staying visible.

For most 22's I am seeing an original value of 1. Even mine had a 1 but after OTA 10.1.0 or 10.1.1 in Dec 2024, it changed to a 5. For 2023, all trucks with TowTech have 5, those without have 1. From the chart going from 1 to 5 enables MFCAH (AH=AutoHitch).

There is an active thread on enabling Auto Hitch for MY 2022 here. I posted a longer response over there.

I think at that point they expect you're done with the camera. You can always turn it on again while parked.

As suggested, use the parking brake. Just shifting to park engages the parking brake pawl inside the drive housing and there is quite a bit of play in there. Applying the parking brakes holds it with the rears quite well.

I don't think they could make trailering any easier.
