I'm a pilot, so planning (in advance) fuel stops is just part of the trip planning.
Former GA pilot here, too. And yeah, I think those of us with that background make the transition to EVs a lot smoother than others. That said, the amount of effort I put into route planning today is a fraction of what was involved just three years ago. There are unique cases - for example, I just completed a trip that took me through three of the national parks in Utah. With a Pro SR, that required some careful route planning and an overnight charge at a hotel to see everything I wanted to see. But all went well and the views were fabulous. I’ll probably do a separate trip report on it.

Just the fact that Tesla has opened up their network and the greatly expanded number of other DCFC locations has made it far easier. And it will only get better.

Obviously there are places that don't have much coverage and more detailed planning is needed. All of that should be done in advance and not while driving down the highway.

I’ll probably do a separate trip report on it.
Please do!

Ford nav is still trash. Apple Maps was my go to since it allowed the nav on the little screen , since Google Maps does it now apple trash was deleted from phone. Ford nav is horrible with the update still IMO. To each their own I guess

when I travel on road. I purposely stay away from Tesla chargers but that’s just me. In Cali at least too many places to charge no need for crapla to get any of my money.

I have to say, the latest update that added the Tesla chargers as well as allowing you to set your preferred charging stations has made a huge difference for me. I honestly can’t see a reason to use any other navigation app. Does anyone else feel the same about the update?
Hey OP can you and anyone else who have this update comment what functional improvements you've noticed with the SYNC nav beyond inclusion of the Supercharger Network and the setting preferred charging stations / CPOs? I too use SYNC nav almost exclusively and I believe that if the Ford team were to pool most of their resources into improvements for 1 application, it would bee SYNC Nav.

The only times I've used Google Maps was when:
- destination address was already identified on my phone
- the destination had multiple DCFC waypoints and I only want to exclusively use the Tesla Superchargers

I would encourage everyone to encourage the Ford team to further invest in their software for both our benefit and the long-term strategic benefit and capability-building at Ford.

Beyond some of the legitimate complaints with SYNC Nav, I would argue that the following user experience improvements would be:
1) better map layers (only Garmin?) that maintains more road networks at various map scales (for context and navigating on the fly)
2) applying mapping best practices around street name labels (e.g. Google Maps).
3) Object-based waypoint selection and addition to trips (e.g. charger location, press-and-hold on a map point, etc...)
4) less nanny controls while "vehicle is in motion" such as address entry and change order of way points. The way things are locked down now make it more dangerous to operate a vehicle while wrestling with the application. The less steps and workarounds that a user has to perform, the better.

@Ford Motor Company some feedback and encouragement to pass along

Yup, considering the brutal cold, if you were to set out on a long trip but had not used departure conditioning (plugged in to level 2) where the battery would get to best performance, then you would be driving on a cold battery, once you hit the first DCFC session, and have not used any enroute conditioning, you might be sitting a little longer until the battery is warmed to safe minimum temperature for fast charging.
I thought I saw somewhere that putting the drive mode to Sport will do some pre-conditioning?

Yes that has been mentioned in other threads, more so when it's hot out, I don't think it has any affect in cold conditions (warming) the battery.

Is it just me or does the Ford Nav only list some Tesla chargers, like it doesn't list the one by my house, the one on the other side of town, or the one by my work, to be fair I'm pretty sure that one is for Teslas only, it doesn't even come up to pay in Teslas app, although I've seen them charging there.

Are these other stations also V3/4?
Tesla does reserve some of those for exclusive use for Tesla customers.

@Ford Motor Company I am frustrated this update is not getting pushed to 22 and 23 models.
@Ford Motor Company where is the update for the 22/23 trucks
I'm not sure what problem your trucks are having - my early build 22 Lariat had it as of yesterday. I checked as soon as I saw this thread. Answering 'yes' to the "auto-add chargers" option during route selection chose only the Tesla chargers between Fairbanks and Anchorage, including one that has only opened in the last few weeks!

Not sure what exactly you are asking, but the unavailable station is one of Teslas OG stations like when they first started building them, I don't know if they've been upgraded or not since. The other 2 I've charged at numerous times before I installed my EVSE circuit but they don't show up in the nav, don't really matter to me cuz I already know about em, but they're pretty convenient when you're on a road trip along I-10

Those older OG stations are V2 ..... NOT COMPATIBLE .... so would be filtered from view if the app is configured for CCS vehicles with adapters, as to why the others which work aren't showing could be an app configuration issue.

Can you share the address of these invisible yet working stations, some of us could cross check.

I am guessing the ones showing up for you are V4 chargers that don’t need an adapter.

I'm glad to hear that the built-in navigation is continuing to get better. I use Apple CarPlay exclusively, so I'll never use the built-in navigation. Up until about a year ago I'd use it to precondition the battery while still using CarPlay for navigation. Now one cancels out the other so I can't use them simultaneously. That's super annoying.

I really wish Ford would incorporate preconditioning into CarPlay and Android Auto.
Android Auto preconditions the battery when a compatible charger is part of the navigation route. This has been confirmed numerous times.
