I have to say, the latest update that added the Tesla chargers as well as allowing you to set your preferred charging stations has made a huge difference for me. I honestly can’t see a reason to use any other navigation app. Does anyone else feel the same about the update?
My problem with the Ford Nav system has nothing to do with the chargers; my problem with the Ford Nav system is that the navigation sucks. Compare it with Waze, Apple Maps, Google Maps and other CarPlay apps and Ford Nav pales in comparison.

I'll stick with using a proper CarPlay nav app for navigation and use the Tesla app for when I need to charge on the road.

Ford lightning is the best vehicle I've ever owned.

Ford lightning navigation is the worst navigation system I've ever owned.

It's atrocious. Difficult to use, not intuitive, multiple times it has led me blocks or even miles away from my actual destination. And don't even get me started on the lockout that prevents the driver from entering a destination. I'm a grown ass man who paid $90,000 for this truck, I should be able to use it as I please.

My wife and I actually got in the habit of having Google Maps open on our phones simultaneously and taking a wager on how off the Ford navigation would be.

This is what happens when you use the lowest bidder instead of the best product. Again I LOVE my truck JFC the nav is *awful*

It's cheaper for me to pay the monthly fee to Tesla app because I only roadtrip maybe once or twice a year

Charging at home most of the time - don't see a need for the Ford Nav,
Charging while travelling - typically use the ABRP to set up the trip, a day or two before going. If any of the trip looks 'challenging' for charging infrastructure, I go to Tesla app to check for any T that ABRP may have missed, then go to Charge Hub and Plug Share to check those apps in the area of concern.
Question for the group: Do you feel the Ford Nav (as updated) is worth the fee they charge? Only if you road trip often?

Pre-condition question: If you are on a long Hwy trip, the truck maintains battery and motor temps while you drive (shows in the Trip Energy features) so what does pre-conditioning give you that the truck is not already doing to assist with your next charging stop? ie as @GDN noted?

It's not much of an impact, but shifting the number of degrees cooler or warmer depending on the season ensures the DCFC session is at peak output and suffers less of a chance of derating, more noticeable in the hot season.

Thanks TMH - that makes perfect sense. Not a lot of "Hot" season around here, compared with the alternative, LOL.

Yup, considering the brutal cold, if you were to set out on a long trip but had not used departure conditioning (plugged in to level 2) where the battery would get to best performance, then you would be driving on a cold battery, once you hit the first DCFC session, and have not used any enroute conditioning, you might be sitting a little longer until the battery is warmed to safe minimum temperature for fast charging.

"Ford Nav is better than ever!" is probably true, it's just still not as good as all of the other options.

"Better than nothing!" - True

"A great backup if you washed your phone in the laundry!" - True

"The best option for address lookup, route finding, and charging on roadtrips!" - Not so much....

We still need route planning via the app as well as a manual battery pre-condition button…….

It’s absolutely ridiculous that I can’t plan my trip for the SoC I plan to leave at….

I do A LOT of long distance traveling - just finished my 16th trip of more than 1500 miles in my Lightning. I think the Ford NAV sucks; thank god for CarPlay and Apple Maps. In fact, it would take hours for me to describe all the horrible UI design and function problems in the software. I wish Ford would just accept defeat and use CarPlay Ultra.

Ford released the NACS routing update with a new APIM update to the 2024+ models. Those of us with 2023 and below were left out.

Exactly. I paid for a month for two road trips in October and let it die. I'll activate it for the next road trip.

That does not work for a long roadtrip. You need the ability to type in a destination and have it calculate charge stops along with the time you need to charge. I am guessing many have never experienced this level of convenience full EV route planning brings. The Tesla app is just good for finding your next stop not for overall route

I'm a pilot, so planning (in advance) fuel stops is just part of the trip planning. I would never get into airplane and just fly till I'm low and fuel and then figure out where to stop for fuel. Don't do that driving either. My next currently planned road trip is not till January. I already know where I will be stopping for a charge (2 stops total). Same thing for the next trip in March (5 stops total).
