Ford is also moving forward with their new platform EV so there will be a (smaller) EV truck coming for any BEV purists who refuse to buy anything ICE. Plus, the MME is great option also from Ford.

I really wanted this truck to succeed but it’s obvious we’re the minority when you look at sales figures compared to ICE or hybrid options. You can’t expect Ford to keep losing money forever. At least with EREV it’s still primary electric power and can serve as a bridge to convert more people who may have had range anxiety. They’re not giving up, just pivoting for the large vehicles with expensive batteries.

Extremely disappointing. No more Ford's for me after this. I'll have to go with another manufacturer. I have zero interest in dealing with the ICE headache anymore. I'll hold on to the Lightning for the next few years and look elsewhere. Hopefully this does well enough to switch the ICE holdouts to the benefits of electrification.

It doesn't feel like it's the answer, it's just a solution to a different problem.

The same people who were complaining about the range of the Lightning will now have to find something else to complain about because the majority of them will still buy a traditional ICE vehicles when they realize that the EREV is 25,000 more than the standard version.

There's a handful "enthusiasts" who will buy it because it allows them to be "different" but I'm guessing it's at least a 1:1 ratio of people gained to people lost because it isn't a pure EV, so my hunch is that it won't outsell the Lightning, and if that's that case is it really "the answer" - only the future can tell.

Going back to a diesel F-250 is an excellent option on my list too. Twice the range of EV, and actually less cost while out on the open road. I wouldn't mind that option if EREV does in fact end up being expensive.

I don’t blame Ford for what they think the market will be.
The Edsel was one of the finest cars of its time. Just ugly and expensive.
I‘ll keep mine as long as it’s economical. I don’t marry my vehicles. It’s just a truck.

1) No, I never give money to dealerships for basic maintenance that men should be doing themselves at home. I haven't for the last 30 years and I won't in the future.

2) I will GLADLY and with joy change my engine oil and filters on a schedule if it means that my wife and I can enjoy long trips with our camper again, not stressed over finding that next charger in the perfect location, and hoping that it's compatible with the truck when we get there, and praying that it's not out of order when we get there. To be able to gas up and go again means freedom. A 15 minute oil change twice per year is SO worth it.

It sounds like you were never the target market for EV trucks. Why did you get it if you are towing a camper so often?

People like @Shmoe need to understand how business works. In business you make products that are profitable. What you don't do is build products that you will bleed money on so that you can appease a handful of people.

Why did Ford and GM stop making extended cab midsize trucks? Why did they stop offering manual transmissions on ALL of their trucks? Why can't you get a 6' bed on a midsize? There are myriad formats that people wanted and still want to this day, but the OEs don't build them because there isn't a business case for it. IT'S NOT PROFITABLE.

The Lightning is the best selling EV pickup truck in America, and even the Lightning accounts for less than 5% of F-series sales. If you look at the entire electric pickup segment, it's a tiny fraction of overall truck sales.

So like it or not, this is a brilliant move by Ford Motor Company. "American consumers are stupid." No, we're not. China and much of Europe is a completely different market. Those people don't enjoy loading up a camper and driving hours to a remote site to spend a weekend with their families. They embrace EVs over there because they work better over there. In the U.S. it's a different ballgame. TRUCKS here need to haul heavy and tow heavy for distances. EREV is the answer.

Sorry, this "Americans are unique snowflakes" bullshit is a non-starter with me.

My question is what this means for those of us left behind for stuff like insurance. What happens to rates when the truck is no longer made? If my truck is totaled in an accident, how does new vehicle replacement under my policy figure in when there’s no Lightnings being made? I guess I will need to ask USAA. I’ve loved my truck and this has been my worry since day one that eventually Ford would give up on it. I don’t blame Ford. Can’t convince the average American who never drives far that they don’t need 500 miles of range.

Doesn't work for me. Last thing I want is a gas engine screaming trying to recharge the battery as I try and order food at a drive up window, or while sitting at a stop light. Had a BMW I3 Rex been there done that. Maybe the GMC pickup or a Slate with long range battery. Love my Lightning, but FORD has lost its way. Every month it is changing plans pause, restart, raise price, lower price, add STX, on hold aluminum shortage, now cancelled... is the model T pick up cancelled as well?

Ouch. I’d be fine as the generator as an option, but as the only option just sucks. Why would I want the expense and maintenance of a gas/diesel generator when the battery alone fits 99.9% of my driving needs?

Want to be progressive? Dump some of the gas models for the EREV and continue to make a BEV.

Five years here, two EVs. But like I say, just because it has a gas tank doesn't mean you have to put gas in it? Sounds like it still plugs in..

you would still have to maintain the ICE including oil changes, etc. no thanks
