To be fair, it was extremely unlikely that important powertrain parts were going to be available in 10 years anyhow. Tech is moving so fast.

Fine. But Ford isn't building trucks FOR YOU. They are building trucks for the masses, and the masses buy trucks because they need to haul or tow. Otherwise they'd buy a car.

And what happens when the original owner sells it or trades it in one day? Maybe the second owner is a guy who NEEDS a truck and will tow with it. Ford has to engineer these things to do their intended purpose, regardless of whether YOU will or not.

As someone with a degree in meteorology/climatology who has been studying weather and climate for 40 years, all I have to say to this is that if you're that gullible I've got some ocean front property in Kansas I'll make you a KILLER deal on.
Really ... you don't see the "overall" weather changing?

Surely there will be a class action lawsuit filed to protect us owners which I would join and be the lead plaintiff if any class action law firms are following along. I don't have the class action experience to qualify in court to get approved for class action counsel (wish I did).

Absolutely not.

Riddle me this Batman... why was it exactly the same in the late 1800s and early 1900s, by actual records, before diesel trucks and interstate highways and aerosol cans and all the other things the tree huggers claim is ruining the planet? If we use records, and not assumptions, there is nothing new going on.

It’s not the US. It’s the market. Unfortunately at this time people don’t want EVs in mass. I like the idea of letting the market decide. When the prices are right, and the time to charge shortens and you can tow a decent distance I think lots more people will go that way. I love my 23 ER. I won’t be getting rid of it anytime soon. In fact I don’t think I’d go back to a ICE vehicle. But there are others that think differently. The problem was we were creating a false market by incentivizing people to buy one using tax dollars. Believe we all pay for it. That money does not come out of thin air. The market will correct and we will see what comes of it.
Expect a resurgence of interest in the BEV when the nationwide average gas price hits $ 6.66.

Based on the lackluster Lightning sales, how can anyone say this is a bad idea? I know everyone here loves their truck on this board, but Mach-E sales have outpaced the Lightning by a fairly wide margin, which means the market right now for an all-electric truck isn’t looking great.

I don’t mind the idea, so I’ll wait to see the details. Hopefully, it’s not a full-blown V6 that Dodge is using.
And Mach E sales suck too. It’s on borrowed time until the new stuff starts coming out, then likely toast too. It’s getting long in the tooth anyway at this point

I understand Ford's decision. I'm just saying I don't like it. But they are a public traded company that needs to make money. I understand that. But at the same time they're putting out an announcement on the lightning forum. Lol like they thought they'd get a lot of backers on that front. @Ford Motor Company doesn't seem to have a clue about its audience in this context.

That said, there's lots of sponsored ads that I'm seeing on this thread for the scout for him and the Rivian forum. LOL
I wish that they woul
I agree with the last part of your statement 100%. Our government should not be artificially creating the market. DROP THE BAN ON IMPORTS!! Let the free market work. If our government doesn’t want to subsidize the technology, fine. But don’t prohibit me from making a Capitalism Free Market decision to by something else.
Yes. Although I’m for certa

That might happen sooner than later in the people’s republic of California. Refineries keep closing. Gas keeps going up. I don’t live here but am working here. I just smile as I glide past the gas station and pull into work and plug into the free 80amp charger. 🤣

No one is denying that it's been warmer before and even the warming effect has absolutely nothing to do with anything any human has ever done, how do we live in a warmer climate?

For any corporation, loyalty is a one way street (and it always goes in the wrong direction.)

At such time the doomsday clock will be measured in microseconds to midnight.

Agreed. They are bleeding money on the lightning right now especially because the size of the battery and its cost associated with it so this battery is going to be significantly smaller. I bet you anything that electric only range is gonna be about 120 to 150 miles and the rest is gonna be gas.
If I understand what they've announced, 100% of the power to the wheels will be from the electric motors and the ICE generator will recharge the battery on the move. The amount of gas used will depend on how far one needs to go between charge locations.

That is why CA has such a high proportion of alternative fuel vehicles - BEV, NG and H2 (coming soon).

I must say I am disappointed but I get it. I can't say as of now if this is the best decision moving forward for Ford. They have been chasing the shiny objects of late and while an EREV does make the most sense, that's what the Lightning should've been to begin with. Ford has done well to cement themselves as a follower of late vs the leader they once were.

I hope for the best moving forward and will continue to enjoy my Lightning as long as I have it. I'm very glad I leased it as I see them likely being difficult to move now that an EREV has been announced.

One thing they'll have to battle is folks who get an EREV may not charge it much and simply have the generator running more than it should. Some people just don't get things and I foresee lots of oil changes coming for those folks but, I'm sure dealers will be pleased.

I'll look at the new Lightning when my lease is up and see what it's all about but having to change the oil on an "electric" truck sucks. Maybe the 5.0 will still be around and I'll hop back into one.

Either way, I surely hope this is the best move for Ford. It's time for them to regain some consistency in business decisions and be more successful.

Which makes me roll my eyes.

Non-EV Owners go...hope you carry a fire extinguisher for that and park it far away from the house.

But add a tank full of gas and an ignition source to that same batter and that concern dissipates.
