I'll be the first to accept being proven wrong, but as it stands this whole operation and how they've approached it has struck me as very suspicious. Right down to the way they respond to the tech spec criticisms with "You just wanna see us fail, bro." instead of actual technical reputations.

This tech would be a gamechanger if real, but as it stands I don't see that happening.

Like you, I want it to be real, but until its out in the open being used, its hard to believe. One thing I do agree with them on is that there are some smart people out there, and this could be real. I think there's more than likely a cure for cancer, but there's more money to be made otherwise. I believe there is a way for diabetics to not have to inject insulin, like a person that needs a kidney being able to get a kidney transplant, but there's more money by not having the cure. The same thing applies to tech. There's more money to be made by dragging it out for years and years and having small increments of breakthroughs than saying here's what we've been looking for.

WOW .... can you list any more wacko conspiracy theories you believe in?? ... Bigfoot, UFOs, Earth is flat...

I'm skeptical of anything unless you show me EVIDENCE. This is why our society is so full of s**t. Social media influencers are not evidence. Big claims require big evidence.

This SS battery may or may not be true but waiting for confirmation from reliable sources. Again - EVIDENCE!

From VTT in Finland:

"VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has conducted measurements on the properties of Donut Lab’s battery in its research laboratory.

Donut Lab will publish the research results as a series on its website, where they will be available to the public. Donut Lab also responds to questions related to measurements and the battery technology it has developed.

VTT maintains and develops advanced research equipment and pilot environments. We offer companies unique expertise, cutting-edge technology, and the opportunity to use these resources in their own product development.

VTT is one of the leading technical research organisations in Europe, ..."

I'm assuming VTT is not a wholly owned subsidiary of Donut Lab.

Bigfoot - my son had size 14 feet, does that count?
UFOs - US Navy and commercial pilots believe in them, they've seen them, even have video released by the Pentagon.
Flat Earth - it's relative, my yard is flat for example.

Suppose you were a small company with a breakthrough technology. Do you go to Ford and say "We want you to put our batteries in your Lightnings (that you are giving up on). Good luck with that.

Do you go to Toyota, and say "Scrap your own SS plans. Use ours." Good luck with that.

Aware that failures will occur in early production, would it not be better to start small (as in a motorcycle) and iron out the production process possibly pissing off 35 customers (10% of first year production), instead of starting big and pissing off thousands?

A small vehicle allows the demonstration of very high DC charge rates at any Tesla Super Charger, whereas a car-sized battery pack would require a megawatt charger, which are extremely rare.

Might it make sense to develop some drama while finalizing the small scale production, so that absolutely everyone in the industry knows about Donut Lab. They have accomplished that. All around the internet, there are thousands of threads like this one, and about 50 high traffic EV/Battery tech influencers doing Donut Lab's PR for free, and driving views up with "Wow... could be!!!, then "Darn, its a scam!" then "Whoops, it's the real deal"! No need to spend millions on a Super Bowl ad. The constant back-and-forth churning ensures that millions and millions of impressions are made. (The influencers love this shit, and so they do all of Donut Labs work for them.... it drives up the influencer income, and cost Donut nothing.)

The testing has been done. But DL is drawing out the reveal on that. Fast enough to quell some of the most negative comments. but slow enough to allow production kinks to be worked out while still keeping the company small enough to keep the stock in the hands of just a few people.

I have a boat project going on for which these batteries would be perfect. The marine market is even more sensitive to fires than Fox news is re EV cars, so improving on LFP (which has become the norm in boats) is a big deal. I signed an NDA with Donut. I'm thinking they are the real deal.

That's a bad look for them to go that route and it makes me even more suspicious. It's not a posture I like seeing from a company that's operating in good faith.

Even assuming they have something promising, there's a long road from a promising innovation to a component that's ready for inclusion in commercial products and there's many chances for show-stoppers to show up in between.

More on this:
I have about 24 old 60 AH LFP cells, all of which have lasted longer than I anticipated when I bought them 15 years ago. Some have been abused by neglect. Some have been treated with respect, and -- apparently -- identically: always charged together; balanced periodically to within .01V; discharged the same way. Some of these cells are like new. Others have failed almost completely. The point being: predicting which cells will fail in advance is not rock solid science. (Lightings with failed cells and modules frequently show up in this forum.) So... statistical process control (etc) can help to weed out cells that are iffy, but doing that reliably will take some time, and that's where pissing off 35 customers is better than pissing off thousands.

Here is more details of how this came about. When it comes to batteries today is like the beginning of PC's and Cell phones. So many companies trying to be the top tech, which is good for us EVers for future battery replacements. Eventually the cream will rise to the top we are just along for the ride.

I see UFO's almost every day. Sometimes I think it is an osprey... or maybe an eagle. sometimes, it becomes identified: "Oh, it's just a turkey vulture."
Remember all the UFOs reported around new Jersey in Late 2024?
