Last year I installed a Generac 6854 which is the same as the 6852 but includes the Generator Inlet and a 10' four prong cord. All works well however the 10' cord is just too short. I went to Harbor Freight and bought a 25' cord and now I am getting ground fault errors. I exchanged it for another one thinking it might be faulty and the issue continued. I used a multi meter to check continuety and everything checked out. Does anyone here have a suggestion, or possibly a longer cord they have successfully used? I am not interested in snipping the ground so that is not a possibility.

Thanks!

There has been much discussion regarding transfer switches and I forget the term but effectively multiple ground points. I do not know if it applies to your particular setup but it sure sounds like it.

First thing I'd do is check the ground on the 10' for continuity.
Second thing I'd try is putting the 10' inline with the 25' for a test only.
If it works I'd search for similar grounding issues on the forum regarding the issue and see what the permanent solution was, I know I've seen it but since none of it applies to me I didn't retain it.

Note:
I am not an electrician.
I do not have the 9.6kw PPOB.
I do not have any transfer switch as such.

I actually did both of those suggestions. Both the 10' and the 25' continuity test the same. Connecting them together also produces the ground fault. Puzzling!

This is not electrical advice but what I did was remove the ground from the cable and it won't produce the ground fault anymore. I snipped off the end, cut and capped the ground, and reinstalled a new cord end. It will now only work with bonded generators and/or my Lightning.

The rv power cord I got came with an adapter that does this.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the neutral transfer switch I bought?

Measure the resistance between each conductor of the 25’ cord with it not connected to anything. If it’s anything less than infinity, the cheap insulation in the cord allows enough leakage to trip the GFCI.
Thanks! That's exactly what it was. I will get a better one tomorrow!

can you post a link/info for the RV cord and adaptor you found that worked?

I use this one successfully (15’ version). It comes with an inlet box which I needed as well.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RBN16DR?
We are moving to a different home. The new home has a NEMA 10-30R now on a critical loads sub panel for the generator inlet.

Wondering if I should try to use it with an adapter of sorts and stay with whats hooked up? or go with all new system like you used..

If I go with the system you bought…what did you do to it to make it work for your lightning without issues..? TIA
