The OEM Goodyear Wrangler’s mine came with have been pretty good in my opinion. EV rated and I’m almost at 30k miles on them.

Glad they are working for you. Sure not my experience with them. I have replaced three (one of those twice), plus I have another one with a plug in it for almost a year that has recently started seeping (need to air it up every 2 weeks). I replaced the front two with Toyo AT3 EV and will replace the other two soon when money allows. Yes, I really need a real off road tire...

And to the original poster, ugly! Glad no one was hurt.

Yikes. Glad you weren’t hurt and avoided an accident. I saw a blow out on a big triple axle trailer passing me, outside high speed freeway lane probably at 70+ mph. The blowout was like a bomb, blew the tire and disintegrated the California roller rim in pieces, trailer sagged, tow vehicle was lucky to get the trailer stopped without rolling off the freeway.

I would report this to the NHTSA. It's unfortunate that you bought it on Ebay, because you can't vouch for what happened to it prior to your ownership. Had it been original to you, then you could make a claim under the tire warranty.

I remember seeing a video once of people rethreading old tires and then reselling them. I personally would never buy a tire off eBay but this makes me wonder if this could have happened here. I would also look into the eBay seller, is it an actual owner who sold their take-offs or is it an account that sells nothing but tires?

We have all read or seen the scattered reports of the factory 22" General Grabbers blowing out....mostly with little to no damage, however I was not so fortunate.

Speed 70-75 MPH cruise was set and going with the flow of traffic
Tread depth 6-7/32
PSI cold 41
Ambient outside temp 90-92F
Age of tire 04/23
No road hazard
No warning
Tire was bought as a replacement on EBAY 6 months ago with 8.5/32 tread as a take off replacement due to nail to close to the sidewall
No patches or plugs
Mounted and balanced perfectly
General Grabber 22" 115H load/speed index (the proper tire)

About $7k in damage. took out the bedside, blew hole into the bed space, busted up the power folding step, fender liner gone, yanked out the wires to the pro-power, my ratchet straps in the bed came out of the hole and wrapped around the axle and rubbed a wire loom raw.

When it blew, it was loud and violent, but Me thinks the majority of the damage was from the tread separating from the tire and spinning around at 70MPH flailing around and such.

I will try to logon periodically to answer questions but ill be hit or miss, so please don't be upset if it s a few days, just a busy guy.

I have a Ford rep pushing my case to up the ladder (not at my behest but in response to my FB post), but being no-one was hurt, this is clearly a TIRE issue and not a truck issue, the worst is my deductible and increased insurance rates.

FWIW I LOVE my truck. This is the 2nd one I have owned and when buying wife a new car last month we considered buying another one, but couldn't find what we wanted so we got her a loaded Mach-E Premium ER.

Thanks for your post. Yep. I had a less tramatic failure with the stock Generals.

I had one give up on me while on a road trip from San Francisco to Phoenix a couple months ago. I was passing through Pomona CA. The tire inflation warning lit showing air pressure dropped to >30 lbs & was falling fast. I tried re-airing on the roadside, but it wouldn't hold the re-air. Two local tire shops couldn't get me back on the road the same day so I finished the trip to Phoenix on the spare. For what it's worth, I don't recall hitting anything in the roadway that may have caused such extensive damage.

The tires had a little over 12,000 miles on them when I brought the truck to the Phoenix area dealer for a replacement. The dealer said there was a "slash" too big to repair. they ordered another General tire and relaced it the following week. I had purchased tire & wheel insurance coverage at the vehicle purchase, so the replacement was free to me. Now the insurer is asking for more data on the tire(s). I suspect they have gotten other claims and they're questioning the tires now. It should be interesting to see what comes of it all.

I'll post an update when I have one.

Same thing happened on my dodge ram 2500 years ago. Much worse actually. Completely shredded the rear quarter panel. The tire manufacturer was no help whatsoever

Very interesting. My ‘22 Platinum has 17k. 2 weeks ago on a 250 mile drive home I began to feel a light vibration on RR about 50 miles from home. As I drove it progressively got worse and I slowed from 75 to 60-65. I monitored tire pressures and they all stay around 42 psi. And the last 6-7 miles was off the interstate under 45. When I got home I checked tire and it was deformed in one area which I am sure is a broken belt in the tire. Luckily I had purchased 4 used Platinum OEM tires and 3 were on a shelf in my garage (the 4th is in the spare tire well) so I picked the best of the 3 and replaced the damaged one. Truck needs to go in for warranty items so I planned on asking for replacement.

That damage was terrible. Seems I was very lucky. Dealer and I will be having a tire conversation.

Well, I had the Generals rotated last week and something felt slightly off, so they tried to get me to do an alignment. I was trying to make it to 40k before replacing, but looks like I’m going with my gut and looking for a set of Michelins 4K sooner than I planned.

Better safe than sorry, this discussion has me thinking as well, my annual safety inspection is due by end of August, the tread depth is passable, tires feel solid, but I'm likely to replace mine before winter, only 31,758 miles as of now, I'd love to get to 40k as well.
