This is such an obviously such a poor, sabotaging decision that I can't believe Ford doesn't see this. Clearly there is some unknown forces being applied here that are so strong they are willing to gamble the company away.
As a LONG EXISTING entity "Ford Motor Company" .... they might have an idea of what they're doing, what is rolling through the minds of their accountants, economists and leadership, we have no idea, but I suspect it's for the best of the company as a whole.

Ford realized that in the current political environment it would be acceptable to bilk the US taxpayers for their $22B write-off, after taking the tax credits for all the EVs they sold. This is legal tax evasion, that’s all.
In other words strategic 'Tax Planning' nothing wrong with any of this.

You believe "LONG EXISTING" means infallible?... You believe that accountants, economists, leadership don't make mistakes? or that corruption and not caring for the company doesn't creep into one or more of those categories? ALL companies eventually fall. There is a long list of huge, long existing companies that died only a few years after people would have a laughed at the thought.

Transitional technology shifts are usually when these things occur. Ever heard of Kodak, Blackberry or Nokia. The CEO's at the time pressured by their shareholders ignored the up and coming new technologies. By the time they realized they chose wrong, it was too late. Gigantic Blackberry laughed at the iPhone touch keyboard when the first iPhone came out. We all know what happened next. Guess where all Blackberry's SMART shareholders that were laughing are. They are still laughing making big bucks on Apple, Google, Samsung...etc. Why? Because they don't care about the company, they only care about making big money fast. If they can double their money knowing that it will cause the company to die, they will choose that in a heartbeat.

I am more concerned about them canceling the T3 over the lightning. Not being ready with your most important best selling model when the "touch screen" tipping point occurs is incompetent. As others have said, they could easily prevent risk with little extra cost by creating a BEV version of their EREV. If you don't think this is the case, then we agree to disagree. Not much more I can say.

I've read news reports the composite sales worldwide is around ~123,000.
Not too great, but then it wouldn't be easy navigating some of the narrow streets in France or Italy built by the Romans in an F-150...

I read that the Ford Ranger hybrid does well over there.

And something called the "Maxus T-90" an EV pickup (Chinese made) which sells for about 25K Pounds ($33k USD - with 100% tariffs, $66k in US I guess):

December of '24 must have had some STELLAR end-of-the-year rebates!!
It did, yeah, that's when I bought mine. Actually most of these deals carried over into Jan 25 but that doesn't really show up here.

Agree 100 percent. They have proven they can make the best selling EV. And honestly no one can really even compete with them. Get the tax write off and move on.

The market's not as strong as anyone predicted. They can get a good tax write off and there are no more CAFE standards. Add in the fact that aluminums shortage and they have to prioritize their high revenue models, the enviroment was poor for the Lightning to continue.

Ford is a business that wants to make money. THey've proven they can make arguably the best Truck EV if they need to.

Their new platform is coming down the pipeline and honestly the Lightning's charging speeds and efficiency---while very good---will seem pretty outdated in 24-36 months.

2025 Mach-E Premium
One of the challenges in looking at the monthly sales of this or the Mach-E is a lack of visibility into things like recalls. A recall, which is safety related, requires a stop sale. Both vehicles have had several.

For example, a stop sale was in effect from early Feb to late March 2023.
A stop sale was issued in late Feb 2024.

There were at least 3 or 4 that I can recall.
I'm not entirely sure how many recalls there were for either model in 2024, but there were eight 2025 recalls for the F-150 Lightning. Only three of them were for 2025-2026 models, the others were for older models (thus only three stop sale recalls for all new models on the lot). The Mach-E was recalled five times in 2025, but only twice for 2025-2026 models. Here's the list of recalls I'm going off of.

22, 23, and 24 had stop sales. I am sure I missed some, @TaxmanHog I am sure has more accurate timing. Point is, you cannot analyze sales trends on either this or the Mach-E without understanding the periods they couldn't sell and then the recovery inflating the numbers. And keep in mind that during a stop sale, it can only affect certain dates, so they could still possibly sell some, making the low period seem like it wasn't affected when it was.

If they can get the next EV truck priced right with the Universal EV Platform, it should be a winner.

Absent another pandemic, political arm twisting (threats), a world war, or other major hiccup, that should be doable.

Maybe Ford should also be building out the EV infrastructure the way Tesla did, now that the Gov't is backing out of that project to ensure people have confidence they can easily recharge on the road?

For those that think Ford is so competent, all you have to do is look at the number of recalls relative to literally everyone else. About 40% of the total IIRC. That does not scream smart.

I wonder if there's a correlation between those high numbers and the election. It's possible a lot of folks who were on the fence about getting an EV decided to get one before the new administration began their dismantling of all green tech.
