@Ford Motor Company - I understand the Ford app and the truck software in MY2025 allows the user to select the charging amperage. This would be extremely useful to those of us that have 2024s and prior and rely on the Ford mobile charger that came with the truck. I need to plug in to a 30amp outlet but cannot with the Ford charger as is because there is no way to derate it to 24 amps.

What’s stopping you guys from updating previous model years?

Best guess, Ford is too busy putting AI in their app. At least they added karaoke to keep us occupied while we wait for actual requested features to be implemented.

At least you can escape the angry, loud buzzing of the datacenter inside our sound-dampened F-150 Lightning truck! /s

the older trucks only have the setting under charge settings - charge station - settings - max charge current, if you have and are plugged into the pro charger. however it does not work, you have to open the charger and set it manually inside the pro charger station. I have been sending bug reports to ford as I get advanced app install with test flight. they will never fix this bug as it has been a problem for over 2 years. it would work once in a while when there was a separate app for the charge station. once they merged it into the ford app it stopped working.

That doesn't control the onboard charger in the truck. It (when it works at all) only controls a single, Ford brand EVSE. Just like you could do with the app for any other "smart" EVSE except it'd actually work.

I have to guess software for Lightning-specific modules like the onboard charger is on life support at Ford at best. Exposing new functionality like max current so it could be set by more new functionality on the onboard screen or in the app seems incredibly unlikely.

I know but it is the best you get on older models. it appears there is no amperage control in the BCCM in older fords. not sure if it is a software or hardware issue. would guess it is a hardware issue due to newer EV's from ford have the ability.

I would also like to change the max charge level when connected to a DCFC with the app instead of having to set it only in vehicle. makes me always leave it at 100%.

It's intermittent at best, but not fully dead ....yet!!

You are correct I just tried it with the new app and it worked on the second try. Perhaps they have been listening. Hopefully they get to DCFC slider added soon.
Make sure the delivery amps is really changed. The number in the app may show that the change was made in the app. The FCSP? Maybe.

Another way to derate your charge session is to use the Ford Mobile Power Cord which runs at 30A max L2 (which needs to be on a 40A circuit so won't help your issue), but it also has a L1 dongle which will run at 12A on a 120V outlet which will be painfully slow.

I had my FCSP derated with the app to 32A, but after a recent glitch in July, it still says it is set for 32A but runs at 44A based on the time and the number of kWh added to the battery (so the max 48A less losses) and I can no longer connect to the FCSP with the app to adjust things.

I agree it would be good to be able to change the max amps in the truck. I don't have that ability in my 2012 Nissan Leaf either.

The truck will control the current to no more than the maximum current the EVSE can provide based on the J1772 signal from the EVSE. The truck's on-board circuitry also has a maximum amps it can handle and will draw no more than that, even if the EVSE has a higher max amps capability.

When we change the setting on our EVSE, the FCSP for example with eithrer the app or the circuit board dial, we change the signal the FCSP sends to the truck about its max amps, ie, the max the FCSP can provide. The truck then will draw that amount so long as it does not exceed the truck's own internal current limit.

As an example, I wired my FCSP for 80A max.
My truck is a 2023 Pro SR with a max current limit of 48A.
So the truck will control the current to no more than 48A or what the FSCP max is set to..
If I lower the setting on the FCSP to 32A, the the truck will abide by that limit.

The truck's AC to DC converter is where the current from the EVSE is controlled to not exceed either max limit based on the J1772 signal and the truck's internal settings.

In case it is of interest, in the signalling according to J1772 the:

"supply equipment indicates to PEV readiness to supply current and modulates the [Control Pilot] signal indicating to the PEV how many amps it can supply...The charger sends the information about its maximum charging current in the form of a 1 kHz ±12 V pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal to the electric vehicle."

The charge amperage adjusting slider did not work for a couple months for me but as of a week ago, it now works. I can slider the slider to the amps i want and it now works again. Not sure why it all of a sudden started working but I hope it keeps on working.
