Adding propulsion sound on Flash trim?

Federal law and regulations require EVs and hybrids make some sound at low speeds or when in reverse, to alert and protect pedestrians, bicyclists, etc., especially blind pedestrians who rely on sound to know if it is safe to cross the street for example, who may not otherwise hear you coming.

Some states also had laws (Ca and Va) before the Federal law was promulgated.

The laws sets minimum and maximum sound levels (dBA) at low speeds measured at certain distance

Disabling the sound is a violation of Federal Law, and could have serious legal and financial consequences in the event of an accident when disabling it contributed to an injury.

So disable it at your own risk.

As for modifying it, the NHTSA has safety standards that must be met for the warning sound.
I do not think the sound can be modified with FORscan from what I have read.

An aftermarket system would be required to change the sound...but it had better be compliant with the NHTSA standards to avoid the legal liability associated with disabling it.

I added a switch to my speaker, so I can turn it off when needed.

As for the sound itself, there is a thread in here as well that extracted the sound and possibly could replace it with another sound.

Why? I absolutely detest the fake sound in my platinum... Sometimes after OTA updates, it gets reset and turned back on and that's number one on my list to shut back off. It is so muffled and doesn't even sound real. My previous truck was a Harley Davidson F150 and it had a nice V8 exhaust note so I get the love for exhaust sound. BUT ITS FAKE... it's the equivalent of going vroom vroom when your friends are in the truck... embarrassing. I missed the V8 sound when getting my lightning but I slowly learned to love the silence even more. Now I just laugh when guys are trying to be cool launching their loud V8's going slow as molasses while I blow by them in my silent truck.

There are two possible sounds.
External - Pedestrian warnings. Reverse gear beep-beep and low-speed whoosh in Drive. Federally mandated.
Internal - Propulsion sound. Fake engine sound in cabin for driver and passenger entertainment. Only available in Platinum. Other trims do not have the hardware. Been discussed repeatedly on here and there are threads if you search “propulsion“.

Thanks for helping get this topic back on track I was asking about the internal sound if we could add the fake engine sound like in the platinums and Mach e. Never about removing external sounds. I already have problems when driving close to my kid’s school in the alleyway and no one getting out the way

Haha. People don’t really use the horn in my neck of the woods if it’s not an emergency you sound your horn everyone present in the vicinity looks at you like who’s dying. It’s a cultural shock. This could be a whole other topic for me. Driving to New York or Chicago and hearing a horn is like what’s happening what’s happening after not hearing it for so long. The Canadian experience

(2) Place your tongue firmly between them.
(3). Blow and make a vibrating noise.
(4) Activate interior windshield wipers for spittle.
(5). Enjoy your juvenile need to make noise.

Oh, I see...gee whiz, I didn't know there was any internal sound except through the AM/FM/Etc system...why would anyone want that?
