Is it possible to setup AA in the Lightning to only be used when physically connected with USB cable? And then just use Bluetooth if not connected with cable? My truck keeps connecting AA wirelessly and that's a problem for me because it losses signal frequently during my drives due to some interference along the way.

Yes you can, just make sure the USB cable can xfer data and not just a charging cable. Android 9.0 or higher.

I think I understand what you are asking...

If I remember correctly, there is a Wireless App Projection setting in the Settings menu (probably Connectivity), disabling that might achieve what you are looking for. If that doesn't work, you can also disable Wifi on the truck.

I'm going from memory here, sorry.

I believe you simply plug in the phone to the cable.

Even plugged in, sometimes mine is connected wirelessly. Not sure how or when it makes the decision to use wired vs wireless when plugged in, but it's definitely a thing.

Pretty sure even if you are using the wire for AA, there's still a BT connection for calls and such. Least that was how it was when I was using a wireless AA dongle in my previous Subaru and wife's current Q6.

I use mine exactly how you are trying to. Turn the "Wireless App Projection" toggle off (I need to double check the name), then AA only uses the cable to connect. I use mine this way daily.

On the phone, goto settings/connection/WiFi settings/Advanced/Manage networks, look for projection SSID {PROxxxxxxx}, select, turn off auto-reconnect.

You just need to turn your phone WiFi off and plug in. It still uses the Bluetooth but it doesn't drop out.

On my Android phone there is a helper routine in Ford App that automatically switches the wifi mode back on after manually turning it off.

I just want a button. That the phone doesn't auto connect until I click the button.

That's an odd one. My Bluetooth comes on automagically when I plug in but it doesn't touch the WiFi.
Android is pretty customizable though so I imagine it's a setting somewhere.

Turn the App Projection toggle to OFF in the SYNC screen.

I may have misspoke, the phone wifi controls also has a feature to reenable when in the vicinity of saved SSID's, customizing that will help, only disable the projection SSID's

I tried this method with my phone, didn't work out because the projection SSID wasn't listed, just other wifi devices I've accessed in the past.

So I tried disabling Projection from Sync, ominous warning that all app's the had projection capability would cease to work and I'd have to connect via USB, so I allowed the projection to be turned off, immediately lost AA on Sync, then plugged in my double USB-C cable, made sure the phones USB handler allowed for transfer/Android Auto , but the phone would not load.

So I went back to allowing projection from Sync.

@WildBlue do you run the latest model of android phone?
Possibly you have an older model that's just not able to remain stable, I had an old S10e which frequently dropped out, not only with Sync but other usb devices, headphones, etc. When I upgraded to a S24u, I've much fewer problems.
