My 2023 Lariat has 25K miles and had been flawless. We stored it as we have before during the winter in our garage. Per the manual I set the charge limit to 50% and charged it, disconnected the 12v battery and put it on a tender. On opening storage I reattached the 12v and noted that the frunk would not close by itself. The truck started and I saw the wrench icon. It drove normally for a short trip and I returned home and tried to charge. It charged to 60% and stopped.

I found the fault in the app. I tried a reset by disconnecting the 12v waiting 10 minutes and tried again. I noted the charge limit was 50%
and reset it high. Now I got:

- a new fault, trailer brake system, in addition to the power train
- frunk didnt close by itself. It does open
- truck charged +2% and stopped
- charge limit keeps resetting to 50% despite me setting it to 90% in the truck

so I tried removing the 12v and charged it overnight using a charger. The charger showed success and 12v tests at 13.07 volts. I reinstalled it, waited 30 minutes and tried again

- power train fault still there
- trailer brake fault gone
- frunk will now close by itself
- truck initially would not charge. Got a red ring. Reattached plug and got it to start charging after resetting the limit. Charging stopped shortly thereafter

i tried using the level one charger and results were the same. I will check this am to see if waiting overnight changed anything.

Seems like it mostly likely a 12v battery or software issue, or a BECM logic fault or module. Less likely a HV hardware since messing with the 12v produced some changes.

If nothing has changed this am after an overnight wait I will contact the dealer and hope they can see the truck soon.

Since the truck had been in storage mode for many months, did you notice any indications that OTA's were downloading after reconnecting the 12v LVB?

Just curious if any had posted and created after-install side effects?

BTW, the frunk close button on the hood never works after a 12v disconnect process, I've always had to use the cabin button to cycle a close & open process before the APP or HOOD buttons would work normally.

Good question. No updates succeeded since 12v . I tried to enable them, even 'update now' did not work, when I returned hours later no luck. I was hoping that maybe an update would fix it.

Do you still have full power available?

No. 57% power

update: I had the 12v battery tested. Ut tested good. Put it back in the lightning. Measured 12.7v before connecting, 12.2 after connecting, truck and displays off. Checked and no change to the status: max charge went back to 50% by itself. Turned it on, adjusted max charge to 90% and tried the level one charger. Truck is charging. It will be awhile before I know if it can exceed 62% where it cut iff before.

When my first battery module went bad I had 57% power available on the dash and I could not L2 charge over ~63%.

However the second module failure did not throw any errors nor power reduction. Just couldn't charge over 83%.

If you can check your DTC's that will be a big clue. My code from CarScanner was
===BECM DTC P0B24:21-AF===
Code: P0B24 - Hybrid/EV Battery 'A' Voltage Unstable

And yeah, you have to close frunk manually after disconnecting 12V or if you left it open for a long time. Don't slam it, just lower it gently until it catches and then it will power close the last inch.

Thanks Bruce. Those numbers are ugly. I have a forscan adapter coming on Saturday.

Just bring it to the dealer, you're compounding unrelated issues. Don't wait for a diy solution.

You've got serious issues only the FoMoCo certified tech can properly analyze with proper tools.

It sounds like you have a bad HVB module, just a bad coincidence that it occurred with everything else. 8yr/100k mile warranty on it so you should be covered there. You'll just be without your truck for a while, the fix (if the dealer confirms that a bad module is the problem) could be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on module availability and shipping. There's lots of threads here that cover a wide range of experiences having one replaced. Hopefully your dealership can get you fixed on the quicker end of the spectrum.

Thanks for the updates and Good Luck next week, and please keep us posted. Your situation is strange if it is a battery module, in that the module somehow failed over time while the truck was in storage.

Yes Grumpy2, bad luck or gremlins in the works during storage? Hopefully Ford honors the warranty. I followed their instructions for storage.

Did you reset the BMS?

Have to do that when you recharge and replace the battery or else the truck will think it is still a weak battery.

LVB BMS reset

Make sure 12v battery is fully charged:

Start Accessory mode
flash high beams 5 times
step on brake pedal 3 times
red battery icon on dash should flash 3 times

But if you did that, then some other 12v system issue could be at fault - all those errors seem to point to a 12v system issue.

Could be a bad BMS module.

Could be a bad 12v system component or wiring with a short.

Could be the DC_DC converter.

So let the dealership locate the issue at this point.

If you had the 12v battery on a good quality maintainer it should be fine - it it was on an old school charger, might had been damaged by over charging driving off electrolyte.

Keep us posted, and good luck.
