Just had my windshield replaced - truck is 2 months old, and I'm windshield poor again (always "out of pocket" cause there's just not a good insurance plan - I had one where for $161 per 6 months windshield replacement was "free" but that company went sky high so we switched to State Farm, but no WS plan!) Anyway, had the mobile WS repair guys come to house, and they of course needed my FOB - right away I thought, OK, here's an easy way to steal my FOB "program" so my wheels started turning about ANTI THEFT issues.

1. So, #1 does the FORD APP track our LIGHTNINGS?
2. Does anyone use a Lojack, or similar?
3. Are EV's even desirable to STEAL?
4. Does anyone still use a CLUB to lock the steering wheel?
5. Any way to encrypt or change the FOB program?
6. Any way to turn off the wireless unlocking and turn back on?
7. Thoughts on the potential for thieves to copy our FOBS in a commercial parking lot - what are the dynamics?

Anyway, my PARANOIA kicking in - I hope for NAUGHT - but better PRO ACTIVE than SORRY.
I am not worried about someone coming to my house to steal my LIGHTNING - (we're pretty remote & have cameras, so I'd be notified quickly) but generally want to be prepared.

Let me know what you know.... thank you.

1, yes
2, probably
3, dependent on the objective of the thief
4, haven't seen one in forever
5, sure, but then the truck wouldn't respond
6, faraday cage
7, theoretically possible with a flipper zero

A competent thief will turn off connectivity as soon as they can. The Ford location tracking is rendered useless.

Not to shun ur paranoia about loosing ur Lightning to some ne'er-do-wells, but I’d be more concerned on whether or not the glass company calibrated the windshield camera? For the lane keep assist.
In regards to a duplicate key fob, (I assume u just gave the glass company 1 & not both/ 2 fobs) unless they have FDRS with a VCM3 & NASTF with a VSP code, I wouldn’t worry about it, for now.

2: I have a Apple Air Tag (with the beeper defeated) hidden in my truck
4: I have one. Use it if I consider it to be higher threat.

Paranoia is a great marketing tool.

I couldn't care less is someone steals my truck, it's the shit inside I don't want to go missing.

I have insurance and have been paying insurance companies for 30 years, that's my security.

2 months in and you didn't realize that you have a gps connection?

Have you set up your charging locations yet?

Aha yes the calibration cost $195 of the total - 2 guys came out: 1 changed the glass - then 2nd guy came to do the calibration - he took it out on the road, and was done in about 30-35 minutes. Good point / thank you. Got R done!

I'm well aware the FORD app tracks the truck - (why I listed it #1, really to see if anyone treats like a LOJACK) - app always shows location and I have two charging locations (home and farm 80 mi apart) I have not used a public charging station, and don't plan to unless necessary: so far have not needed to use one.

1) Have you ever opened it? Right there at the top, can't be missed.
2) No. Why?
3) Some might be, most not.
4) Hold my coffee so it doesn't come out my nose... Simple Google search shows how easily defeated these are.
5) Put in a Faraday bag.
6) No. Why?
7) They get in range of your FOB or PaaK.

This is why I have insurance... Mine includes zero glass deductible. I also don't use the low cost provider. $161 total for 6 months? If so, your coverage is crappy. For a Mach-E and Lightning, I pay much more than that MONTHLY...

'Dis you?

Short story about “the club”

I was a field service manager in South Florida with a company that had 200 standard Caravan service vehicles which techs took home. We had at least one van stolen every month For almost a year.

One Monday morning we had 3 reported as stolen over the weekend. That day I called Winner Corp, the maker of “the club”, and ordered 200 clubs for $6,000. We issued one to every tech and required that techs use them 100% of the time. THE VAN THEFTS STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. The following year we only had one attempt to steal a van. That failed attempt to ended up resulting in a bent steering wheel.

I heard all the naysayers claims that they didn’t work and can be defeated easily. From my personal experience they worked great to deter thieves and for them look elsewhere.

Just my 2 cents from personal experience.
