The fact that the coupler being in place changes the startup errors makes me think the comma or the harness may be bad.Hello everyone. Long time watcher of this thread specifically. I purchased the Comma3x specifically because of what you folks have done, so thanks for all of your efforts. I've been trying to avoid posting this, but I'm to the point where I could use some input. I installed a Comma3x, the lightning adapter, and the AJZride dock mount in my Lightning about a month ago. In the beginning the Comma was non-functional - it showed as disconnected and the truck threw all sorts of errors that never cleared. Using some other troubleshooting techniques from this thread I purchased a quality USB cable to replace stock. This got me to 90% functionality. As long as I didn't use the dock, the Comma was functional on most days but the truck threw the normal startup errors every time which should not have been happening with the lightning adapter. If I used the dock then the unit was essentially non-function again. I was still using the short USB cable that came with the Comma at this time, so I ordered a male to male USB C adapter thinking that if I shortened the overall cable length it might work. With both of the stock USB C cables out of the equation I'm up to 98% functionality and I am able to use the dock without problems. Two issues remain: 1) I'm still getting errors on startup even though I'm using the adapter. They clear and they clear slightly faster compared to the Comma without the adapter, but my understanding is that they should not be appearing at all. 2) I occasionally get serious errors on the Comma while driving, which is why I say 98% functionality. I've seen CAN Bus errors and radar errors. This happens randomly about once every week and a half or so and the problem always goes away after I turn the truck off or on.
I've tried everything I can think of at this point. I've reseated all connections, ran the Comma without the dock (same issues), ran the Comma without the lightning adapter (same issues, slower clear on startup errors), tried reversing the USB C connections. I even tried running the lighting adapter with the comma symbol pointing to the truck instead of the Comma thinking there might have been a print error on the case for the adapter. That didn't help either. I'm thinking I may have a faulty adapter or Comma, but is there anything else I should try?
So something is faulty outside of the harness and comma. Did you make sure the aftermarket cables meet the USB C 3.2 Gen 2x2 spec?Interesting - I did that and with only the short 90 degree cable there are no startup errors.
Here's what I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089FV33QX?th=1So something is faulty outside of the harness and comma. Did you make sure the aftermarket cables meet the USB C 3.2 Gen 2x2 spec?
Its possible the resistor on the lightning adapter is bad. I can send you a replacement and see if that resolves your issue. Here's what I ordered: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089FV33QX?th=1
I found that cable somewhere in the previous discussion and I believe it meets those specs: shows 20gb.
This is the other adapter I'm using to replace the short stock 90 degree usb cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CTT1BPQ8?th=1
Everything worked ok when I connected as follows just now: harness --> USB adapter --> lighting adapter --> comma short 90 deg --> comma.
That got me wondering if it was the dock all along, so I want back out just now fired up with my normal config minus the dock so: harness --> USB adapter --> lighting adapter --> long USB from Amazon--> comma. The errors appear at start and then clear so removing the dock doesn't resolve the issue.
I suppose it's possible that I got a bad USB from comma and a bad USB replacement from Amazon?
That would be fantastic! Let me know what you need from me to do so. Obviously if the adapter isn't the issue I'll make sure the replacement gets back to you.Its possible the resistor on the lightning adapter is bad. I can send you a replacement and see if that resolves your issue.
Do you have the dock from @Ajzride? I can send you the dock integration version as a replacement so you dont have to use that male to male adapter. That would be fantastic!
