I have a very ugly tinkercad monstrosity I threw together from other peoples brackets they have uploaded. I just put together something on MakerWorld with proper credit given to others, just waiting for it get uploaded/approved. I can come back and share the link when it's up, but I will try to attach the STL here.

This is a pretty simple relocation bracket, but I'm not sure how strong it would be. My thoughts were to make a combo dock that would hold the Comma and the FitCamX.

Fully agree, I think someone who actually knows what they're doing could push out a much better model in no time. I like to think my version will inspire/enrage others into action! I printed it in PPA-CF, so should hold up to heat, but we will see how/when it fails.

PPA CF is more than sufficient.

my fitcamx already showed up, so I’ll get started tonight.

Looking forward to an improved design!

I uploaded mine finally to makerworld just because at this point. Makerworld bracket print

Having felt how light the fitcamx is, I can say this is a perfectly valid solution for the C4. I'm going to focus on a solution for the C3X, and then I'll work on a combo dock for the C4.

Do you guys think the C4 would hang too low if it was mounted to the bottom of the FCX?

Looks good! My only notes would be to avoid the 6 (visible) sharp 90 degree interior corners and to radius them. They can act as stress concentrators especially with vibration and UV embrittlement. This can cause fatigue cracking and failure of the part over time.

wait...I read a fair amount of this thread and others regarding comma ai and such...I must have missed this part: can the OBD be used to power comma by itself (between drives, during drives) and it won't cause any errors?

the odb2 port has no effect on the errors. The odb2 is power only. The errors come from the canbus at the IPMA, which is not optional.

I'd like to have my C4 below my FitCamX.

I'm 6'5" and I believe at my eye height, view of the C4 would be blocked by the mirror if it is mounted where the FitCamX is currently located.

I'm 6'2 and I took a photo approximating my eye line in the first photo, and then about 3-4 inches higher to simulate your eyeline as best I could guess.

After playing with a real FitCamX I ordered just for this activity,, I've decided that the best path is very similar to what @Ramblinman86 already posted. The FitCamX is really light and can be moved without worry of leverage on the mount. I'm going to design a mount that moves the FCX up and to the drivers side, so that it stays hidden behind the mirror. The mount will be super simple, and so cheap to make that I'm going to be giving it away. If you want one, you'll just need to cover the cost of shipping. If you order a dock, it'll get thrown in the package with the dock.

I should have some pictures after lunch today.

@Ajzride .. hey another question to add to the pile! I was wondering if there is a way to output the c4's screen to another bigger screen either wirelessly or via cable.
I would like to have the same sort of information available on the C3x screen if possible.

I believe Comma.ai added a video streaming server for their robot thing which uses the same code base to a great extent, right?
Could this be used to basically duplicate the tiny c4 screen to a more viewable device for those of us with old ass eyes that can barely see that tiny screen?

Any project you have seen or can link to perhaps? Or is this just not doable?

I'll have to do some research on that.

We have talked extensively about a CarPlay/Android Auto app that could show a lot of the data. Although both app stores would prohibit the video itself, I think most of the animations might be possible.

About AA/Carplay
It wouldn't have to be on AA/carplay. That is a PITA by from what I have read and can be expensive too as it requires all kinds of safety certifications and permission from the manufacturers. (allegedly).
Also, there a phone mirroring or AI hacking devices that plug into the Ford and give a much more robust UI than comes with AA or carplay by default on the Ford Sync screen. I am still playing around with these trying to find one that does everything I need it to. (like getting my MyQ gate opener app to work).

In regards to the C4:

I just need the C4 to stream to an old / cheap phone and/ or laptop. I can buy a cheapo sumsung a10 for $40 from walmart. This should be powerful enough if all it is doing is handling the streaming/control client. I have a couple of old iPhones and Samsungs laying around too that have ample capability to stream video. Probably many of us do at this point.

I would just like the C4 to allow a local video streaming connection with data overlays.. similar to your BP6 video on Youtube.

I would have thought the Comma.Ai devs would have put this into the hardware by default just to make it easier to test and develop the C4.

A quicky GPT session said this, but I couldn't really find any evidence this was real. As you are a BP dev, I would imagine you would have heard of this already... ;-)

A) Local WebRTC stream to a browser

Most forks expose a WebRTC endpoint accessible when:
• your phone/laptop is on the same network
• device connected to Wi-Fi
You open a browser to: http://<comma4-ip>:8088 or a similar local UI endpoint.

This gives:
• front camera video
• driver camera video
• some UI overlays

This is the standard method.

B) Use the fork’s web UI

Different forks provide dashboards:

  • BluePilot Portal
    Offers:
    • dashboard status
    • routes + video playback
    • camera selection
This is documented in BluePilot 5.0 release notes.
  • SunnyPilot web UI / fleet manager
Some forks include a fleet view or camera preview.
These web UIs leverage native WebRTC video frames.
