I'd had some troubles getting key detection working but that's in another thread. It works now but the following occurred while trouble shooting the KD issue.

Key detection was now working again so I went out to the truck to add PAAK again. Didn't have my key fob with me and realized I couldn't start the truck without my key fob. Trying something just for the heck of it, I pulled up Ford Pass and hit the climate button to cool down the truck as it was 90° outside. The truck started and the AC turned on as expected.

What I didn't expect is the instrument panel display (IPD?) had a message that said "push start button to start vehicle". Hmmm... I do not have my key fob with me and PAAK was not active. I hit the start button and the SYNC screen asked me to enter my password. Hmm, when I entered the PW I was able to put the car in reverse or drive. I was in a carport and choose to move the car only a few inches before putting it back in park. Sitting there trying to understand what had just happed, I tried to put in park again and it wouldn't go. The IPD popped up again to "push start to start vehicle" and once again it asked for a PW. I did and once again I was able to drive the truck. Now I think the only reason I had a password was because I did have PAAK active for a few months and had only turned it off to trouble shoot the key detection problem.

I did a search on this forum and didn't come up with anything. Google search discusses it but I haven't read any of that yet. just thought it was interesting and the group might be intesting

That is what the password requirement in PAAK is all about. Once you have it setup you can drive without a fob or your phone. Normal behavior.

but the surprising thing is that I did not have PAAK enabled. I had deleted my phones connection. but the password was still active. Is is possible to add a password without enabling PAAK? in any case adding the backup password is something all should do

No, but apparently (and I think it’s a good thing) the password function remains active.

Can’t say whether that is a feature or a bug, but I like the idea. Not sure why being able to setup a start password is tied to the phone to begin with.

Feature for safety of those who have inadvertently removed PAAK functionality from the phone.

It would be nice if the SYNC system had a process exclusive of the phone to create a password, maybe require TWO FOB's be present to authorize its creation, and make that available to ALL trim levels not just PAAK.

Sort of related to the Climate turning the truck ON...while running a test of the PPOB with the truck OFF, I accidentally touched the climate button on the FORD app screen and the whole thing shut down...PPOB shut off that is.

Went to the truck, turned it ON and restarted PPOB. No error message or ground fault.
I was not running a large load on the PPOB well under 1000W.

I am able to turn the truck ON after running PPOB with the truck OFF without any problem/shutdown.

I suppose this is a bug.

Question for the OP:
Do you have an Apple Watch? I've been noticing some suspicion KD, and I'm wondering if it isn't the FordPass app on my watch.
