Saw this on my walk today. I hope they’re getting a good rate for charging 😎

Its a really nice place to sit in the air conditioning and eat a sandwich. Utilities have them here in addition to CalTrans so they can watch the freeway projects to ensure nothing is accidentally getting worked on.

SCE has always been pretty progressive with the EVs. Prius Plug in, Ford Fusion Hybrid, Bolts, Volts, Model 3s, Lightnings and Silverados.

A major utility, Florida Power and Light has several Ford Lightnings and GM EV trucks. They even have mobile EV charging stations that they bring to events and for emergency charging after disasters. We charged at one of their mobile charging stations after Hurricane Milton.

They use a Silverado EV to tow their trailer to events. The trailer has solar panels Picture of their trailer and Silverado below at Hurricane charging stations

Too bad Florida government is hesitant to support EV infrastructure.

Just saw a Silverado EV belonging to our local utility, PG&E. With what they charge us, they should be able to afford as many as they want of anything they want.

sw engineering manager,
When I was trying to buy a '22 Pro mannequin from the local dealer, they had already promised it to Xcel, the local power company, just down the road. Apparently the power company is a larger fleet buyer of trucks than me, so they got priority.

it's true that one of the lesser thought of benefits of EVs in general, but especially the utilitarian comfort and usability of the LIGHTNING, is the 'idling' that takes place for so many hours on end, and in so many situations, when it comes the nature of contracting, road work, utility work, etc., where a vehicle sits 'idle', but with a human who wants air conditioning, the ability to work comfortably from their vehicle, or even the ability to keep ELECTRIC devices charging, or powered, while 'at work' all day.

for instance, my T-Mobile Whole House Internet 'box' stays plugged into my cab's 120v rear outlet, and powered, for my needs, the whole time I am driving, or parked, or working, etc.

my mini-fridge, too, sometimes needs to keep things cold, all day, either while traveling, or while parked, while charging, or, maybe, yes, while shopping, etc.

all of these benefits are very difficult for the traditional and typical 'work truck' which remains 'idling' for hours and hours, with, well, you know, all the emissions and other drawbacks that come with that scenario.

I find that sometimes I get interesting looks from neighbors, too, whether at the beach, or the campground, etc., when I get into my 'truck', and simply 'go'... there is no 'cranking up' the truck, there is no 'noise', the truck just starts to move. They seem very interested that they 'didn't know' the truck was even 'on'. : )

Yup, that's about what a Lightning is worth -- mobile AC unit. Till it quits and can't do that anymore either. Sorry, feeling pissie about the experience just now...... (truck at dealer for 8 weeks dead) Its not a real work vehicle. Sorry Ford --- you are not there yet.
