Hey folks,

Bought a used 22 Lariat a few weeks ago. Been trying to do my own inspection as I can get time since I can tell the selling dealer never did such a thing (despite their claim). I think it goes without saying I should just refill this puppy up? She is bone dry. I have some previously diluted VC-13G concentrate, I expect this is all good for this truck? I haven’t had any noticeable issues and the initial journey home was a 250 mile drive.

woe!! Love your optimism but that's not good. It's not normal to lose that much coolant. Hopefully you don't have a hole in one of your lines somewhere. I would have it checked out if I were you asap. I know you said its working fine but it only takes once to fry your batteries and end up on the side of the road with a huge battery bill to pay. Its way too late to say I have a problem then.

If you fill it up yourself I would definitely keep a very close eye on it after that!!! if there is air in the lines, it will take a while to purge all the air so you may be filling it a few times, depending on how low it is and assuming there is no leaks that is not at all good for your battery!!!

Bring it to the dealer, that should have not left the lot without proper amount in bottle, if they find an issue it can get fixed on the same visit, they also could use the vacuum/fill tool to help purge any trapped air.

I agree, but driving 250 miles back is likely not practical. At this point I would definitely fill it back between the lines as Scorpio suggested documenting how much fluid it takes. It may not be as low as you are fearing.

Obviously that dealer cannot be trusted but maybe they didn't have any EV experience which is yet another reason to not trust them. It might not be a bad idea to have a local dealer with EV experience inspect it at some point.

This is battery coolant. Do you have the Max Tow package? I read on a previous thread, that it's VERY important to you YELLOW non diluted coolant, preferably the Ford Motorcraft brand. I purchased my Lightning used, and my coolant was low (I live in AZ), so I researched here on this forum.

Thanks all. Decided to fill it in slowly. Seemed to pretty much go straight to filling the reservoir. Hear you all loud and clear on dealer visit. Will get it checked out local this week as I planned to add a Ford Protect plan and need an inspection of it anyway. Truck has 50K miles on it, so I can’t really say how long it’s been that low. It is what it is. This is why you don’t go car buying when hungry! You’re hungry, excited, and forget everything you should be triple checking and asking about.

The coolant system has many spots for air to hang out. The pump will continue to purge the air into the bottle over several days of driving. You have 9 battery modules each with rubber connection hoses, all within the battery pack. If it leaks inside the pack, that is not good. Leaks outside the pack will show wet spots just a normal truck and can be addressed. The only open port is the bottle, and no overflow is intended by design so try to refill to the mid-point just incase you have refilled the system with that last dose.

I had to top of 2x since new then suddenly a 3rd and 4th within a few months… found a leaky line, replaced under warranty, hasn’t moved since.

Should’ve checked with Ford. It is much cheaper. I bought some last year because mine was a little bit low. Also got the concentrate because I can always add water and I always go for the most bang for my buck!!

That is not correct. The proper coolant comes pre-diluted. You aren't using a full strength coolant, it is already 50/50.

My grammatical error: I was meaning to say "Do not add water", the product is pre-diluted, or just pour it in the reservoir right out of the bottle.
