OK, a question. Heat pump.

Today, I was in the climate screen while waiting for my wife to come out of the supermarket.

In the 15" climate screen there is a selection:

SWITCHING THE ELECTRIC HEATER ON AND OFF
When E-Heat is on, an electric heater warms the cabin and keeps the windows from fogging. Turning E-Heat off saves battery power, which extends your driving range. The electric heater is the only source of heat to warm the cabin.

HUH? What about the heat pump on the 2024? It that not a source of heat to warm the cabin???

I’ve seen that too. It seems like old text that hasn’t been updated for the 24-25 models.

That sounds about right. The 2024s haven't really been around that long. Takes the software team a bit of time to update massive changes like the one you mentioned.

When I checked the onboard manual for verifying the truck level, it told me to be sure the FUEL tank was half full - so I drove around until the SOC was 50% before I checked...lol. - Seems like it takes them awhile to catch up to the current tech in the truck...

What is STRANGE is that the same thing is displayed on the 15" climate screen on my 2024, where there is a selection that allows to to turn OFF Electric Heater.

I'm totally confused!!

There is contradictory information in the owners manual.

One section states:
The vehicle's heat pump assists in heating and cooling the cabin and battery conditioning. During heat pump operation,

And another section states:
The electric heater is the only source of heat to warm the cabin.

Can anyone help me understand?

The 2025 manual also states: The electric heater is the only source of heat to warm the cabin.

The heat is electric. Why does the fact that the message doesn't include "heat pump", which cannot be turned on or off independently, cause such consternation? Can't you hear it when it runs?

Perhaps if it said "heat pump with 1.7 meters of hosing connected with 8 clamps and 22.9 meters of wiring terminated in plm connectors" it would be better?

Well, technically it is an electric heater, it runs on electricity.
The technical writer who wrote that portion of the manual has poor writing skills. Adding The words ā€œheat pumpā€ would have made it clearer.

In the Air conditioning industry heat provided by electric resistive heat typically is called electric heat. Heat provided by reverse cycle AC units are called heat pumps. Why did Ford deviate from this in the manual?

NO. The sounds in the cabin is the same when running heat in my 2023 and my 2024 Lightning. and my diesel F-450. All I hear is air rushing out of the air vents.

Ford needs better tech writers.

If I had to guess, the wording is as it is because including ā€œheat pumpā€ doesn’t add any value for the typical consumer. For us, perhaps, but I’d wager most Lightning owners couldn’t tell you which was in their truck.

Do the heat pump lightnings have a PTC heater for extreme cold when heat pump is less effective?

Not that I’m aware of. Only heat pump.

I believe it still retains the PTC for winter battery warming.
