Heating - Temperature Adjustment

Hi Everyone,

I am inquiring about the Lightning's Heating/Temperature Control.

I live in northern British Columbia, where the winter temperatures average -10 to -30 Celsius. I have noticed that when I lower the temperature setting from HI to 28, 24, 22, and 20 degrees, there is no difference in the temperature. The temperature intensity doesn't change until I set it to 18 degrees. Has anyone else experienced the consistent HI heat, even when lowering the temperature? Your thoughts are appreciated. Thank You.

Also, having a warm battery by preconditioning while on 240v will help too.

I always precondition the battery, and I never use Auto Mode.

It’s the same for me. I get cooked unless I set to 66F or less. I just live with it.

The next time I am at the dealership, I will discuss this with them. I think it is a software issue.

I leave mine on Auto almost exclusively, and with that I can distinctly notice a difference between 68F, 70F, and 72F.

When you say "temperature intensity", what do you mean?
Understand that even with "Auto" not on, setting a temperature is defining the overall cabin temp, NOT the temp of the air coming out. It will adjust the fan speed, the air temp, and exit location, all to make you "feel" like it is at the set temp in the cabin.
Put simply, if you want to go from 18C to 22C, it can accomplish that by either raising the temperature of the air coming out, or by increasing the amount of air coming out at the same temp (which may be a very minor change in air volume). Both methods increase the BTUs entering the cabin and will raise the temperature of the cabin.

Thanks, @Firn. Those are Interesting points. When I say temperature intensity, I am referring to the temperature of the air coming out of the vent. With my F150 ICE, when I turn the heat down, the air temperature goes down. But with the Lightning, the air temperature stays high, which leads me to believe that the Lightning's heating core is still running high, leading to more battery consumption. I would assume that when you turn the temperature down and don't have it set to auto, the air temperature coming out of the vents will be lower.

I will try your suggestions.

Do you allow the recirculation air to operate normally or do you manually close the damper (e-switch)?

Less incoming cool air might make it difficult for the HVAC to moderate the vent exit temperature.

First three weeks that I had my lightning, I was not overly happy with the heating (different reason). Tried switching to Auto and the difference is amazing. Massively better.

Check your coolant, ours used to do this it went in for recalls and they needed to add 2 liters to the system. Haven't noticed it since though it's been at dealer most of time... Propower module needed replacing took a while for parts.

Cabin is 65. You set heat on 75. Then you raise it to 78. No change in temp of air coming out.

With our Mach-E, 68 is barely warm enough. With the truck, 66 is the temp.

Use Auto. Set the temperature you think will make you comfortable. If you are hot, lower the temperature a couple degrees. If you are cold, raise the temperature a couple degrees. The engineers figured this out so don't have to.

My 2012 Lariat and 2017 Platinum F150 were always rock solid with the Auto Temp setting. I pretty much them both on 70 all year and it took care of everything.

I did notice on cold days, my Lightening it always seems to blow cold (like AC cold, not just unheated) out of the dash vents for the first 10 minutes, unless I crank the temperature above 75F. Things seem to return to normal and 70-72F is a reasonable setting after about 10 min.

Everyone is welcome here, whether you talk C or F. Frankly, we should have gone to Metric when they started teaching it in the US in school in the 60s. Why do we need to think about 12-per or 16-per or how many ounces a tablespoon of water weighs at 32 degrees?

I always wonder about my friend who jumps in the car and either turns it to 90' or 60' depending upon whether he wants to get warmer or cooler. As noted above your furnace raises the temperature of the air by (let's say 20') and pumps out that air until the ambient temperature reaches what you have set it to. You don't really want it to be 90, you just want to warm up. Set it at 70 and it will stop when it reaches that temp. It will push the warmest air possible until it gets you to where you have asked to be.
