Anybody use a level 2 extension cable to charge? I don’t use a FCSP. I use a charge point that has a 21’ cable. I’ve been looking at an extension cable. I can only charge when backing up my driveway. I park in the back of my house. It’s fine doing so but just thinking about getting an extension. Just wondering if they are safe to do so. I’ve heard mixed things. Something like this:

Look at the company selling that, and their address... Look at their "newly upgraded product diagram, because that says they sold the prior design... Then RUN,
Ford F-150 Lightning J1772 extension cord cord seller

A2Z sells a cord that is actually TESTED. It's 16 feet long, and is certified and warrantied. $137.70 with code FORDFORUM. The same cost, but not the same quality.

I would make sure the connection is elevated off the ground, but that's just me.

Yeah that was just an example. If I make the purchase I’d buy from a reputable company/website.

I had not noticed that A2Z had a J1772 extension cable. I have both the A2Z NACS to CCS-1 Supercharger adapter and their NACS to J1772 adapter. I would trust them completely for a J1772 extension cord. Don't really need it, but nice to know they have one...

Off topic, but whenever someone tells RUN, it always reminds me of that scene in Minority Report when the precog tells Tom Cruises character to run away.

Back on topic, like Rick said, there are reputable options available for AC charging extension cables and they're not terribly expensive if you must have one. Though I think most of us are waiting for a tested and certified DC extension cable for DCFC sessions.

I have a Charge Point system and use an J1772 extension to charge my truck. The Charge Point is limited to 40amps and that is something to also consider when selecting an extension longer the cable the lower the charging amperage.

It has been working for me for about a year.

I've been using one from Lectron for a few years. A2Z has one they make as well. I'd avoid any no-name Chinese crap on Amazon.

I have a lectron extension cable. I don't use it often since I installed another evse. I use it to go from the front right corner of one garage bay to reach outside for EV charging when not parked in the garage. It is a 40ft 40 amp cable. The cable is thicker than the cable on the fcsp.

Just giving another thumbs up to Rick's suggestion from A2Z. He mentioned the extension back when I was looking into how to get our existing EVSE cable that we use with the Mach-e in the garage to my F-150 in the driveway. I bought it back then and it has worked flawlessly and safely since.

Is there a UL listed version available?

The parts are certified. I don't believe any J-1772 extension cord is UL-listed.

UL limits any AC charging cable to 25', correct? If you have an evse with a 25' cord, you can't go any longer. Are there any DC cords yet? Just for those Tesla stations that require taking the space next to the charger.
