"Low Fuel" Warning

So obviously on ICE vehicles there's a tell-tale indicator light that comes on when you're getting low on fuel, and sometimes a separate message that pops up on the gauge cluster as well, and also an audible tone.

Is there a setting for this on the Lightning? I thought I saw a setting for "low battery" warning that could be set to 20 miles, 30 miles, or 40 miles. But I've gotten down below that SOC and haven't seen a single warning pop up. So I'm confused. Is that setting for something else instead?

The battery gauge turns yellow on mine when I am below that limit, I think it dings at you(but there are so many dings). There was also a pop up on the IPC once that said something to the effect that the nearest charger is father away than my range left.

Yeah when you see the main battery gauge turn orange/yellow it gets your attention. Unless you drive in “calm mode” all the time, then I’m not sure what you see.

Have you drive under 30 miles?

I went from a 2021 explorer to a 2023 Lightning and I get that exact same message. Mine occurs at 30 miles. And I know for a fact I am not up to date on software releases (yet).

I believe under the vehicle settings, you can specify the low battery/range preference. That'll be the set point where your GOM display will change to orange on the dash.

An IP message pops up at the value you have selected in Settings. I believe mine is set to 50 miles but I rarely get that low so I might be mistaken.

@WXman, if you haven't already, I suggest taking an hour and looking at all the available settings in the Settings menu. Turn on your favorite music and grab your favorite drink and enjoy it. The cab of a modern pickup truck is a pretty nice place to be.

Yeah I've done that quite a few times. I've been through every menu hierarchy on the screen many times. I currently have my low battery warning set to 30 miles, as it has been since the day I got the truck. And I have driven below that level with no change whatsoever on the dash and no chimes or warnings.

As far as weather, it's both a hobby and profession. Been involved in weather study since the early 1980s.

You're absolutely sure you've driven below 30 miles remaining, not 30%, multiple times? Even the manual says the gauge will turn yellow on page 130 for the 2025.

"When a low battery condition is reached
the gauge is amber. When the battery is
depleted the gauge is red."

While software bugs obviously happen, that is one I have some doubts on as it's such a basic thing that I have seen myself in my truck.

It even works in km's. Mine is set to 50km. Never fails to get my attention.

I think I'll change the setting to 50 miles to see if it "resets" and starts working, then change it back to 30.

As others have mentioned, it is configurable. I don't recall if it uses a selection list to choose from, or if you can enter the range warning level to your choice.

My wife has her Lightning set to 80 km (50 miles) though we rarely get that low except occasionally on a road trip.

I find that level funny, coming from my FFE where 80 km is about half its nominal range. It's warning comes on at 16 km (10 miles) with no ability to change it.

I think it's really kinda moot to have this warning for an EV owner. I do not know any of us that isn't at least mildly aware of remaining range all the time. Not anxious, just aware.
But if it's a function, it should work, of course.
