It's also very common in the RV industry(check out MSRV.com in Alvaredo, TX, the largest single dealer in the country) that 'in transit', or 'coming soon', or 'in production', or similar RVs are simply NOT at the dealership, but they certainly don't want to WAIT to get your anticipation up....even if it means customers showing up for a 'specific' unit, to only be told that it's not 'here' yet, but we have an even 'better' unit to show you, walk this way....!

Since the F150 Lightning looks 'identical' to most any other F150 supercrew on a dealer's lot, it is very easy to miss one, or even be suggested that a dealer really 'does' have one, but...... not really.

I also drove 50 miles to a dealer in another city to test drive the brand new VW ID.4 all-electric battery-powered SUV... well, the test drive was just fine, even though I knew more about the car than the 'salesperson' did... and until I was told when we pulled into the dealership at the end "would you like to order one today, they are going FAST! ? "... uh, what?? I might want to buy THIS one...why would you ask me that?? Well, VW has/had a moratorium on their demo units, too. That put the squash on that vehicle.

Since the F150 Lightning looks 'identical' to most any other F150 supercrew on a dealer's lot, it is very easy to miss one, or even be suggested that a dealer really 'does' have one, but...... not really.

I started out walking their lot and looking for the Lightning badges on the back of the bed, then realized the quickest way to spot one would be to look at the grill. That's super easy to see at a distance.

For what it's worth, I LOVE the fact that they look identical in every other way. It's a REAL F-150. It needs to look like one.

I could see them tweaking things like they do with the Raptor, but otherwise be the same form factor or they wouldn't be an F-150.

It seems to me these tracking systems are pretty flawed. The fact that dealer stocks are showing before actual delivery is a bit odd, but I’m guessing you’ll be driving it before they even show it arrived.

This is nothing new. I special ordered a fleet vehicle in 2013 and once it shipped it automatically showed up on the dealer’s website. The fleet manager said that it was populated by Ford as new inventory even though it was a sold unit to a local government.

Partially true, they only showed 4, which is only a small portion of their orders. My truck for example isn’t there.

So, I guess they show every vehicle marked as shipped, or ready to ship.
