As for the parking brake whenever I’m on flat ground and there’s plenty of it around here, I can hear the parking brake automatically engage but when on any slight incline like my driveway, it doesn’t and when I put the vehicle in park, it rolls back and bounces on the parking “gear”. Unless I of course, manually engage it, but WTH.

Nice looking truck and photo! Seems like a good one for the "Doing Truck Things" thread. Did you weigh that load?

The parking brake behavior seems like a bug. My brake seems to randomly engage in Park when it feels like it, so I treat it as I would an older vehicle and always engage the brake by hand. It's a good habit in a world where not all vehicles are new anyway.

My opinion is probably unusual, but I miss hand or foot operated parking brakes. They just make so much sense. (In my opinion.)

Is there a doing truck things thread? I guess I haven’t noticed one yet. No idea on the weight but my old F150 would’ve been squatted to the rubber stops. I’m in agreement with you on the parking brake. Somethings are best left mechanical instead of electric.

Inclination is the trigger, probably working normal.
I usually manually set mine when not parked in my garage.

I wonder if your inclination sensor is off. Mine seems to work correctly, auto-engaging when there's even a slight incline. I think there's a screen where is displays or you should be able to pull that using an OBDII reader. If that sensor is working correctly but the brake is still acting weird, I'd take it to the dealer (especially if still under warranty).

Glad to hear someone else has this auto parking brake behavior. Mine only ever engages automatically on essentially flat ground. Inclines, it does not and i bounce off the parking pall (usually while attempting to have it hit the pall gently by using the brake pedal).

so the consensus is that that is not the intended behavior (it should be setting the parking brake automatically on inclines not flats) and something is wrong?

Yeah, I spoke with my dealer about it actually and they shrugged their shoulders and had no idea. And after having one of their brand new loaners (2024 f150 with the 2.7), while mine was in the shop last week, the gasser does the same thing.

I always set my parking brake every time I get out of the truck, since I think it is on the list of requirements (or maybe suggestions) for software updates.

I could be wrong though.

@TMND Could you provide a follow up on what happened with your brake issue? My lightning behaves that same way. Slight incline and it rolls back. Not cool when your wife gets out and is grabbing a baby out of the back seat. My Mach-e engages the brake all the time.

I’ll be honest Ford motor company just wanted to set me up with an appointment at my dealer and prior experience with my dealer told me it would just be a giant waste of time.

So I’ve just learned to live with it.

No faith in my dealer when it comes to these lightnings though. Last time I gave them my truck they had it for a week and a half for a “ charging issue” I told them prior to the appointment. I was suspect of the power supply and that it needed to be tested. Instead, they replaced the charging port on the truck, which is great, but didn’t solve my problem at all. And my charger was coiled up and in the backseat left untouched.
