Keep your appointment with your Ford dealer. Even money says you may have a failed battery module.
agree. A few years ago I got the same service soon with wrench and then two days later the reduced power/module popped up and the dealership came and got it. Week later it was fixed and nothing since.

Here is a previous thread on the SOBDM module which does seem to point to your exact issue.

Update. Just picked up my truck. Was at the shop for 3 weeks exactly....above pic is the service performed.
If they didn't L2 charge your truck for you for at least a few hours, when you plug it in, you're likely to have a ton of air in the coolant loops. Keep an eye on it and bring it back in for a top up. You'll hear it about 90s-2min after plugging it in when the pumps run the first time.

I had my battery out 3x... each time, the truck had to go back within weeks after drinking the reservoir dry.

Was it super cold in your garage last night?
Are you using the Ford mobile charger, or a higher capacity charger, (brand)?
Did your truck receive OTA updates recently?

I recieved the charge port lock update a few days ago. I also experienced the red/orange ring of death. It started 2 days ago while charging my truck via my fcsp at 80A like always. I plugged in and it was charging and later I noticed in the app... "Charge Error". I tried several times but no cigar. I tried cycling on off several times but nothing. I also got the orange wrench that said service vehicle soon. I had 70 percent soc so I went to gym. When I came out 45 minutes later, the wrench was gone. Went to plug in again and it charged and added 1 mile but then the error again.

One thing that I noticed is, looking in the app, the charge rate ramps up like normal and tops out at 16.2 or 16.3 like normal but then it will start back at zero and slowly ramp up again. It will do this several times and then error out.

This morning I took it to the Tesla super charger station around the corner from me. That's when I first saw the orange ring. I went to plug in and saw it and of course I had a charge fault in the cluster.

Yesterday I tried shutting off the fcsp at the breaker in my breaker box for 9 hours while I drove it to work. When I got back, I powered charger back on and it seemed fine. Charging away, charge rate stayed at 16.3, but only fur about 40 minutes. Then the error came back. 😔

The earliest appointment at my dealer is Monday afternoon so I will be taking it to them.

In the meantime, I will do some research, try to update my fcsp and try to figure out wtf. I'm hoping it's something not major like a battery module needs replaced.

Has anyone had these exact symptoms?

My charger has always been hit or miss with my wifi but now it just doesn't reach. I have a wifi extender in the garage that use to work pretty well but now i can't connect via my app. I am going to figure out how to get the wifi out there tomorrow.

Also, how can a recent update negatively affect in charging our Lightnings?

Thanks, Taxman.

I'm not sure, haven't been a lot of negative reports about L2 charging performance issues tied with the recent flux of OTA's coming out.

My last OTA was for Sirius/Xm and my L2 charging has been normal.

Also, i forgot to mention that my Lightning charges with my mobile charger at 110v just fine. I'm hoping it's something simple that's happening that is causing this error.

With all of these symptoms that it seems other members have not encountered, should I just create another thread about this, @TaxmanHog ?

Update:

I derated the charge rate from 80A down to 40A and it charged to 80 percent without a hiccup.

Tomorrow after running some errands, I will bump it up to 60A and see what happens. Still trying to figure out why charging @ 80A is suddenly a no-go.

Have you tried 47-49A, I don't have the 80A dual OBC to know whether it splits power or what. But if it turns on over 48A, I'd think it was definitive.

Ok. It took me an hour yesterday to finally be able to "connect" the fcsp with the router and my phone. I checked and I do have that version firmware that you posted @TaxmanHog . I'm pretty sure it updated yesterday after I got it connected because I wasn't able to connect with it for probably a year or more, so that now is good.

I powered up my air compressor and used a blow tool to thoroughly blow out any debris in the charge port and the charger plug.

After running some errands this morning, I decided to just set charger back to 80 amp in the app and see if I can charge @ 80A without the error. When it started charging, I notices the blue bar on the charger still had the yellow segment at the end of the bar which told me that it was not charging at 80A. The charge rate was still only at 8.6... the same rate it was when I derated it down to 40A. I played with the setting and finally set it to 79A and now the charge rate dances between 16.1 and 16.2. That rate was pretty much the same rate as 80A. Not sure what's up with that, but I'll take it.

I charged from 77 SOC to 85 and no errors! I will take it back to Tesla supercharger tomorrow and make sure there are no errors there.

I'm guessing between the updating the fcsp and blowing the charge port and plug, made the difference? I'm not going to get happy yet though. I want to still take it to the dealer appointment on monday but it really clashes with my schedule. If everything keeps checking out ok today and tomorrow, I may just cancel that appointment. We'll see how it goes. I will keep the board posted. Thank you all!

Ok. I think I'm all set.

Just went to supercharger and charged from 76 to 81 percent without issue. I think between the fcsp update and the blowing out the port and plug, that (I hope) fixed my issue. I was all mentally prepared to accept that the dealer was going to keep my lightning for several weeks to replace battery module(s) or charge ports or something else.

I think I'm going to hold off on the dealer appointment set for Monday.
