I have a 23 standard range pro. I would like to put running boards (side steps) for easier entry.
has anybody installed a set and saw any noticeable decrease in range?

A simple Google search will show you that a) running boards do affect efficiency and b) it's 1 to 3% so not noticeable without scientific measurement.

I put a set of electric running boards on mine, stock boards are set way too high and tight to the body.

Needed something to make it easier for my 90yo mom to climb in and out.

They come with their own module so when you open a door they deploy on that side and retract when you close the door.

Probably adds a little range as they don't stick out to catch the wind like stock steps do.

I’ll bet more like 0.5%
"Most running boards only reduce fuel efficiency by about 1–3%." - https://www.fabheavyparts.com/blogs/buyers-guide/running-boards

"When you install running boards, you might notice a slight MPG reduction. Studies have shown that running boards can decrease fuel efficiency by 1-3% on average, depending on your driving habits and the type of running boards installed." - https://knfcustoms.com/blog/do-running-boards-affect-gas-mileage/

I have a ‘23 standard range pro as well. I bought running boards off of a platinum owner on here. After 25k miles, I can attest that I could not notice a difference in range. However, climbing into the truck is noticeably easier for my whole family.

He is right, I agree, I found a Ford pair on craigslist off of a 2022 ICE F-150 and they bolted on directly. We both use them every-time we get in.

Our ‘23 has the powered hideaway running boards. The S.O. loves them, can’t see them when retracted.

Recall the old JC Whitney Catalog. Crazy efficiency “improvements”… 😂 & for $4.95 you could turn your 2-barrel into a 4 barrel and for another $2.95 add water “injection “ and spark plug “boosters” and gain 50 hp plus improve mileage by 50%. Though it was probably aero tape and aero-wipers that put you over the top 🤪!

Dad and I would read it as a combo of comic and cheap tech porn. I still crack up when I see old copies (rare).

How difficult was the installation? Any Forscan needed?

The boards are simple to install (simply bolt them on) and use and the truck apparently doesn't realize they exist. I attempted to install lights on the ends of the boards and that is not possible despite the wiring was already there. Forescan would probably do the trick, but the lights were not that important to me.

As was said, installation is a breeze. Just bolt it to preexisting holes. It’s easier with a second set of hands, but it can be done with one.

I found the wiring harness for the lights for the steps. Took off the factory caps and hooked them up. Literally plug and play and didn’t require Forscan.

Power up/down boards are the best. I have the Rough Country ones. Wish I had the new ones with lights.
Installed on hot July sunny day in TX back when I was 20lbs overweight with low to moderate skills in such things so anyone can do it.

Factory Power Running boards extend further, lower and have a bigger area for your feet than fixed running boards. I've had them on last 4 Ford Trucks. When I bought my Lightnings I limited my search only for trucks with the Power Running boards.

The only down side is the noise when they extend and retract.

Here is picture taken yesterday where Mobile Tech was doing a software recall update at my home.
