This has to be the best mod you can do on the Lightning! Thanks to Thanks to @Drayday55 for printing it for me his version which is perfect. Also the under seat air vent extension and Frunk button cover. The air extensions worked well for my
One note on the install, when taking of the center trim piece the video shows to pull towards but there is a plastic pin in a hole that needs to be lifted up but the center screen is blocking it from coming out of the hole it is in. You have to pry the hole down and the pin up to get it out, I also put a L- wrench in the hole once I had the pin out of one side to keep it from popping back in while prying the other side out. If you just pull I'm sure that pin will break, although not a big deal as it's probably not needed.

Thanks for the detailed information regarding the ā€˜center’ trim, but I’m still a little unclear on where that is located. Would it be possible for you to shoot a pic from the outside of the console and point out about where it is located?

Many thanks.

They'll "move" / shift into park anyway, just put yours into gear and open the door and you'll see. It doesn't physically move, but the gear will shift and the LEDs with it.
It seems to depend which version of the shifter you get. I got the $30 one from the original e-bay listing and the knob definietly physically rotates if you open the door or shut off the truck with it still in D or R

Yes, but the point was more that all rotary shifters will/should shift to park when you open the door / shut the truck off even 9f it doesn't physically rotate.

We have a mavrick work truck and I noticed the newer shifters only the light goes to park when you open the door while in gear. The older shift mechanism is more complex and has a servo that rotates the shifter back to park. Also when the mavrick is off you can spin the shifter all you want in either direction. You cannot with the older shifters with the servo built in.

This just makes more sense in my opinion. The dial itself has no physical orientation, so why involve other mechanical systems just to make it move?

I dont like the dial shifters, but reducing complexity is the name of the game here so some motorized dial just seems like its trading one failure for another

Exactly! Why bother putting a stepper motor actuator in when you can simulate the movements using the LEDS and circuitry. Just unnecessary complexity. The knob doesn't need to physically move at all from D to Park. Just cycle the LEDs.

Same as Mach-E. What is surprising is that shifter throws errors in the Lightning.

This is for the 15.5 inch screen R/R of the GSM. I realize that there are steps in here that people are skipping as not really necessary when swapping out the GSM...I'm posting this only as a reference to be referred to in general.

Are there any versions of the GSM that don't result in DTCs being thrown? I mean there are a lot of variations of these shifters around...Escape, Bronco Sport, Maverick, MME....some have the stepper motors in them some don't.

No DTCs with mine.

  • Shifter Model: LX6P-7P155-LE
  • Designed for: 2021 Ford Bronco Sport
  • Motorized: Yes, you can see the rubber ring/grip rotate to park when in drive and you open the door
  • DTCs: None found using CarScanner Pro (Android) with an OBDLink MX+ or in FDRS

I'll go with that one then. Thanks!

Here's my original post with pictures as well as the ebay listing. With your FDRS knowledge you probably already know this, but a PMI doesn't work in FDRS on the GSM. I had a 2-day license earlier this year and figured I would try. I tried answering both yes and no about having the original module, but both failed complaining about the part number.
