Sunroof leak

Anyone else having a sunroof leak? Mine leaks when parked with the front facing down a hill. Water leaks from the controls area down to the wireless charger when I start driving.

I have the extended warranty and the dealer told me it is a maintenance thing and wants $300 to adjust the sunroof and blow out the drains. Not covered.

I had a 2012 F150 with the same issue which they could not fix so I said no to the $300 since I am not convinced they can fix it. Thoughts!?!

Wish my wife had not pushed for the Lariat trim with sunroof...most of what I have heard regarding Ford sunroofs is not positive....I love the sunroof...I do not look forward to the problems.

Check the drains. Blow them out if needed.

Yup - I had this issue myself, but if it makes you feel better you are getting off cheap. Mine leaked pretty bad in the recent rain storms and got my carpet sopping wet - almost standing water. Tried to clear it myself and couldn't. It has been at the dealer for over 2 weeks while they cleared all of the drains and took out the seats and carpeting to dry everything out and clean it. Going to cost about $2k. Fun times!

Fingers crossed I have not had a sunroof leak but I have heard this happens to more than a few out there. With it seeming to be clogged drains I decided to rarely open mine. I think I’ve opened it two times in the year plus I’ve had it.

Yup - firmly decided to never open mine again!

Mine never leaked in the first 2 years, so that's a positive.

On the other hand, the middle tension bar rattled and was replaced, the roller shade jumped track, the accordion pieces that cover the mechanism came off about every 90 days because they're held on with the same hope that Ford used on the running boards.

And for whatever stupid fucking design reason, you cant vent the top roof and keep the sunshade mostly closed. You have to get roasted by the sun if you want the window to pop up an inch.

BUTTTTTTT, it never leaked. So there's that.

One of the specific reasons I did NOT want any trim higher than Flash. Way too many reports of people (not just Ford) having sunroofs leak.

You can find many many many examples of the F150 sunroof leaks, for quite a few years now. This was the biggest reason I didn't want one. I came across someone saying it really started after they went all aluminum, but who knows how true that is.

I opened mine when it was new an vowed never to open it again. Same with the back window. I wanted a lariat with the big battery and thats what I had to get.

Several posts indicate yes.

On my old 68 Peugeot 404, the drains would clog frequently, so I used aluminum tape all around the top of the car to stop the rain getting in. Getting drenched on the way to work one day was the last straw for me.

Plan on cleaning them regularly. I found they fill with pollen and some insects like to go up there an hide. The same thing with the bugs used to happen with my boat on the bilge lines.

I had a 2012 and had the same problem. Could never get it fixed and ended up selling it after a bunch of dry days since it smelled like mold on any damp days. Had 2 Tundras with sunroof and never leaked. The most frustrating part is that this is not considered a warranty item.

My son’S late-model Toyota RAV 4 had the problem of leaking down the A piller due to clogged drains. I never had this problem with my ‘13 Lariat or my ‘22 Lightning Lariat but I would definitely prefer not having a sunroof. I do like the opening rear window though.

Not sure how the drains would get clogged unless you were to park leaving the roof open a lot. I’ve owned 5 F-150s including a Raptor and haven’t experienced leaks. If you park in a covered structure and keep the lid closed I don’t see how debris could get into the drain channels. There’s a fairly wide strip of rubber/weather stripping around the top of the glass so I’d be interested to learn how those drain holes get plugged up.

I’ve seen a few YouTube vids on the issue and it seems that if you do a routine maintenance program of clearing the drains and keeping the channels clean it would alleviate these problems. But, I’ve been wrong before and maybe just been incredibly lucky.
