So coming home from Phoenix, I knew the Circle K at I-10 and Toltec in Eloy had 28 Tesla chargers. I needed a little boost to make it all the way and planned on adding. It did not work. Could not find it on the Tesla app or Ford app. Why do some Tesla charge stations work for us and others not? A Chevy was there also. He could not charge.

I had a similar experience. I received the tesla adapter a while back but haven't had a chance to use it, so decided to try it out. The location was listed as compatible on the Ford app. I got there and plugged in, the lights on the Ford went blue like it was going to charge, but it never started. Do you need to download the Tesla App too; i hope not because I thought it was plug and play.

Nope - dont need the app.

I just used my new adapter from Ford for the first time a week or so ago, and it was dead simple - plug and charge. It does take 30 seconds or so to communicate and initiate the charge session, and 30 seconds feels like an eternity when you're standing there waiting for it to do something. :)

True, but you only don't need the Tesla app in a Ford if you have the Blue Oval network enabled. Blue Oval allows plug-and-charge, but doesn't allow you to access the charging prices of a Tesla membership, though. (None of this would help OP, though, since they were trying to charge at a Tesla-only station.)

Maybe Ford should have put a voice chip in the box instead of a big blue card that clearly explained this...

You just happened to go to a site that is compatible without using that app. That doesn't mean you can show up to any Tesla site with your adapter and expect it to work. Blind squirrel found a nut. You have to use the app to make sure that the site is available for use with non-Tesla vehicles.

Because they might be V2 chargers which are never available AFAIK or V3+ chargers that haven't been upgraded to be available to non-Tesla vehicles.

You MUST use the Tesla/Ford app to find superchargers that are available to non-Tesla vehicles.
Do we havetah?

If you just come up to a location and want a quick way to tell if it will work or not, check if has a silver or black collar on the handle. If silver, then it is a V2 and there is 0% chance of it working. Black collar (v3) or the fancy new V4 stalls with the longer cable and ymmv as even all of those haven't been activated yet. Also not all V4's have the magic dog enabled so still have to use the adapter. Best way is to check the Tesla app as I've found several in plug share marked as Tesla Only when they do in fact work with the adapter.

You do NOT need to load the Tesla App to charge. But you DO need to use the Tesla app to be 100% sure which Tesla chargers are open to the Lightning. But when you arrive at the chargers, just plug the truck in. Ford handles everthing. No need to use the Tesla app (other than to determine which SC's are legit for our use OR (as others have noted) to get cheaper prices if yoiu pay a monthly fee.)

I guess reading comprehension is hard.

No blind squirrel here.

The post I was replying to specifically asked if you needed to download the tesla app to charge - my answer is correct - you do not need the tesla app to charge. I never said that I didn't use the tesla app to find a charger.
