I thought Ford and Tesla were partnering on a bunch of things. Did Farley not kiss the ring well enough?

No need to use the Tesla app (other than to determine which SC's are legit for our use.)
Or to get the Tesla subscription pricing - which makes sense if you use Tesla SuperChargers very often. Give or take a lot, about two Tesla SC charges in a month will pay for the subscription, and anything more than than two SC charges per month and you are certainly saving money. Takes about 100 KWH of charging in a month to break even.

The issue here is that you, the owner, apparently didn't read the big blue card that came with the adapter.

Tesla has older chargers, called V2. These chargers lack the ability to communicate with any CCS vehicle, in fact they don't communicate with the newest Tesla vehicles I believe.

Newer, V3 and V4 locations do work with CCS vehicles with adapters, IF the site's software is updated, and IF Tesla wants non-Teslas to charge there. There are some very congested locations that are not activated for non-Teslas.

We have access to like 60% of the Tesla SuperCharger network. Those that choose to go to non-compatible locations will be met with frustration.

So coming home from Phoenix, I knew the Circle K at I-10 and Toltec in Eloy had 28 Tesla chargers. I needed a little boost to make it all the way and planned on adding. It did not work. Could not find it on the Tesla app or Ford app. Why do some Tesla charge stations work for us and others not? A Chevy was there also. He could not charge.
Very sorry to hear this, know some work and some don’t due to tech. You might be on your trip and have one Tesla charger that works and then the next two don’t work until the next one that does work so you find yourself stranded. So hard to chance it.

To make that worse since owning a Ford lightning I haven’t had any luck with non-Tesla chargers like everyone wants you to use their app. You just can’t drive up throwing a credit card like a gas station and drive off. They want your life story before they allow you to get electricity out of them.

So, therefore I never drive more than 10 miles from my house Lol.

When I own my model three I could drive 300 to 600 miles from my house and knew I had reliable charging but even that is iffy nowadays when you drive up to a Tesla supercharger and they’ve all been cut off from their base or grease has been shoved in the charger cable shorting them out.

Good travels.

Given that your credit card is already in your Ford account, this seems like some confusion on your part.

Hi @Crullbri

Not all Tesla Superchargers are open to Ford vehicles. When you check FordPass, note that the Eloy station is noted as not compatible.

This will also be reflected in the Public Charging app on the touchscreen.

For more on how to find compatible chargers, check out ford.com/fastchargingadapter or scan the QR code inside the box your Ford adapter came in, or on the pamphlet inside the box the Ford adapter came in.

After two open to non-Tesla charging stations would not charge my Lightning, I finally figured out why. (Duh).

If you are somewhat unfamiliar with the Tesla app, and you are not careful to verify that the app is displaying info about the station that you are at, the app can display info about a station you are not at. If you tell the app to select a particular charger at the station you are not at, then tell the app to start charging, the charger will not work.

Maybe Ford should have put a voice chip in the box instead of a big blue card that clearly explained this...
I did read the big blue card. As a matter of fact, I have the adapter in the original box with the big blue card in my truck at all times. It didn't work for me, but thanks for the comment, it was super helpful and informative.

I think your situation was different. You said you verified the location was compatible. But even Tesla has stalls that don't work. Did you try another stall? Was your adapter plugged in securely (that has been an issue)? Did you check PlugShare for station issues?

I verified the location was compatible.
Adapter was secure.
I tried two stalls.
I waited about two minutes at each stall after plugging in, the charge never took.
I don't have PlugShare.

I was just stopping by to try it out, I didn't need a charge, so when it didn't work I didn't spend more than a few minutes troubleshooting. I'll try again some other time, maybe it was just bad luck.

Crullbri, you have, unfortunately, drank the cool aid...

no, Farley is not to blame, here, as he is the hero.
we don't know what 'ring' you refer to...
Tesla and Ford 'partnering'? what is this that you refer to?

Ford EVs are open to use Tesla Superchargers that are ALLOWED by Tesla to work with Ford vehicles. It's plain and simple. Tesla never said that ALL Superchargers were available to everyone, only CERTAIN SPECIFIC locations.

Use the Tesla App MAP to identify which locations you can access:
use the FILTER to only show "CCS Compatible" or similar term, where you can use your ADAPTER...
and/or filter for "Other EVs" locations, which have the adapter built-in...

other Supercharger locations may 'look' exactly like any other location, but ONLY the Tesla map will identify which ones are available to 'us' Ford and other EV owners...

fun!

You do NOT need to load the Tesla App to charge. But you DO need to use the Tesla app to be 100% sure which Tesla chargers are open to the Lightning. But when you arrive at the chargers, just plug the truck in. Ford handles everthing. No need to use the Tesla app (other than to determine which SC's are legit for our use OR (as others have noted) to get cheaper prices if yoiu pay a monthly fee.)
At the new Tesla chargers in Portsmouth, NH you need to use the Tesla app to unlock the cable from the charger, but Plug and Charge worked otherwise.

Was quite a surprise, as had been a Tesla owner since 2019 before switching to Lightning this year, and I've never seen the cords locked in before.
