Trip from central MD to OBX & back

Took my first trip down to the Outer Banks in the Lightning and wanted to share how it went!

We left from around Annapolis at 85% SOC and stopped twice each way to charge. All DC fast charging was done at Tesla Superchargers using the Ford-provided NACS-to-CCS1 adapter, and it worked flawlessly. Arrived in Nags Head with SOC in the 30s.

The drive down late on a Sunday night through the Eastern Shore was smooth sailing. The return trip on Sunday afternoon (July 20th) up I-95 was predictably slow .

Overall, the Lightning performed great—no issues whatsoever on the whole trip! Loved the Blue Cruise, when it was available.

Planning to return to the OBX via the southern route. This time with my Lightning pulling my camper. Will take the ferry ride and stay at Frisco and continue on to the Devil Hills and visit again the Wright Brothers Memorial. Like to check the major renovations done to the place. A pilot’s and Aircraft Mechanic’s Hallow place to be.

I did a LI,NY to OBX trip last April. I didn’t yet have the Tesla adapter. The trip down wasn’t as smooth bc chargers in Virginia were unreliable adding extra time. However once we got there I slow charged at the rental property and got some free l2 charging at the outlet mall and the public park with the sand dunes. On the way down passed many a Tesla station and was pissed the adapter was still backordered lol.

Edit: the kids demanded we eat at dirty dicks as well.

In the last pic, the Tesla charger cord is long enough to park in the spot 'normally' and still reach the truck charge port ! - are they changing the cord length on new Tesla stations - updating older (short) cords to longer ones??? Curious minds want to know !

I stopped at this one on the way back trip. The first & so far only time I’ve seen one of these, but loved it!

That longer cord is on a V4 station - or a V3 station with V4 cabinets. Tesla is supposedly converting older stations. I'm not anywhere near up to speed on their progress / plan. The vast majority of Tesla SuperChargers you can use are the shorter cord.

@Ted23Lightning how long were your charging sessions? and going from what battery percent to what battery percent in those stops?

We were thinking of going basically the same route, but just got a rental instead.
