Will EVs eventually worsen aggressive driving?

Everything is getting worse these last few years.

Some of y’all may have noticed our bright shiny future is kinda jacked up?
More of an individual viewpoint. Some may. Tough to see a downside when you can buy an $85k truck as a second vehicle.

You have to look outside of just what’s happening in your life.

Although, I drive a bit differently in my truck than I do in my sport car, I generally believe aggressive driving is done by aggressive people not by EVs. Added acceleration may help in surviving stupid decisions. The added weight may put others at disadvantage but that is nothing new. Driving smaller cars always made more sense but once roads got flooded with heavy SUVs and trucks, smaller cars became more dangerous to drive. Now that is happening with EVs. Once power density of batteries improve, it may be dialed back.

In general I see more subaru WRXs doing reckless driving than model Y. I think I have seen more EVs hypermiling than getting in a road-rage.

perhaps so, but I also wonder about highways. in some instances (at least for a while) you may see a reduction in average speeds as people are conserving batteries.
I have no problem as long as hyper-milers and the like remain in the right lane of a multilane highway, nothing irritates me more than an inconsiderate boob plodding along in the left lane impeding passing.

I do. I see full bellies. I see everyone working. I see $85k pickups. I see the glass more than half full.
It’s an individual thing. That’s what our country was built on.

I think you are in the wrong country. Inconsiderate boobs drive exclusively in the fast lane (very slowly). If you want to use passing lane for passing, you may have to go to nova scotia, CA. In U.S. the only way to pass is on the right.

The root issues/causes were always there, just hidden out of view. The problem is they were never dealt with until they escalate.

Ignoring problems(because its difficult or uncomfortable) will only get you so far. None of this stuff gets better with age. Most of the pressing problems are 20, 30, or 40yrs in the making.

To get back to the topic of discussion, just one data point: I drive a Leaf, not exactly a rocket. But every time we go anywhere in my girlfriend’s 2014 Kia Forte she complains about how hard I’m accelerating the poor thing. I guess going electric does change the way we drive.

Speaking of Leaf's, after coming back from a road trip, I stopped at an EA @ Wrentham, Mass., a college aged young lady was frustrated that a truck was ICE'ing the one and only CHAdeMO terminal which she needed to use...... it took her a good 5+ minutes to realize she was staring at a Lightning and not some plain old F150, LOL

Lucky for her, when she got the gumption up enough to query me about how long I would be charging, I coyly said ohh maybe another 42 seconds, I was literally that close to my 80% goal, she giggled with excitement and congratulated me about the truck and was fascinated that trucks were in the EV market!!

A little humor and perfect timing defused the anxiety, but I think we will get a lot of these type reactions at charge stations, especially when they are at 100% usage as it was that afternoon.

Small sample size but (as someone who would previously not shy away from what I now consider aggressive driving) after owning nothing but EVs for the last 5 or so years I've found that my driving has become FAR less aggressive. My wife has echoed the same as well. I think the driver is the fact that I just set the Autopilot and then I don't really care. Before it was this constant hyper-alert focus on getting "ahead" and finding that opening before you got stuck.

I feel as though this constant state of hyper-vigilance in driving leads most to behave in a manner they normally wouldn't. Once I started using Autopilot and trusting it more I was happy to just set it and then focus on the bigger picture around me rather than the bumper immediately in front of me and making sure they weren't going to impede my progress.

Like I said, that's admittedly a small sample size but for our household EVs and Autopilot specifically have done wonders to entirely kill our desire to put ourselves in situations we shouldn't be in. I also think there's more than a fair amount of "inset doomsday headline here about a subject that most will click on if you tell them it's getting worse" at play as well. It's a big part of why I typically ignore such nonsense. My life is far happier as a result.

When the price of gas was above $4 and near $5 in my area the driving got noticeable better. Esp. the Semi-Trucks, the awful White Vans and the tow trucks (worst offenders) all slowed down. The public slowed down as well.

I'm actually hoping price of gas goes up :devilish:.

My wife drove the lightning to our one over town. Clocked her moving at 92 mph. She claims she was keeping up with traffic. More like burning up the traffic, had to hold my tongue....
