Will You be upgrading to the Lightning EREV?

Will You be upgrading to the Lightning EREV?

  • Yes - The Lightning EREV range extender will be useful

  • No - The current Lightning provides sufficient range/capabilities for long term ownership

  • Unsure - Will have to see the final Lightning EREV specs/pricing

  • Other - Will leave the Lightning for something different (other brand EV truck, gas F-150 etc...)

Hey @Ford Motor Company (Brian specifically), I wanted to say I appreciate your telling us the news upfront. I am sure you donned your asbestos undies prior to posting this update, knowing it was not going to go over well with Lightning owners.

One of the best decisions Ford has made recently was having an ambassador, such as yourself, engage directly with the community. Hopefully you have communicated back up to Ford that they created something special that I hope they revisit in the near future. And I say that having owned a Ford truck continuously since my very first new vehicle purchase of a 1994 Ford Ranger through many F250’s and F150’s since. Even beating out my all time favorite, my 2002 F250 7.3L Powerstroke F250 with a manual 6spd.

I think what most people would agree with is that it would be fine as an OPTION, but forcing the engine on everyone will probably push as many people away as it will bring ones in. If it was something that I could have installed in the bed when I needed it and removed when I didn't I might want one too honestly (not right now as my use case doesn't require it, but maybe in the future). It just seems like GM made the better option, a truck with a huge battery that charges fast so even if you're towing it isn't that bad. Hell, I'd even be fine towing with the Lightning battery if it charged faster.

Literally at Chevy dealer right now. Thinking of trading in my 23 lightning lariat (which I love) for a Silverado ev. Not sure on fence still. Will take heavy loss on trade in. However I am Very concerned about support. Based on what I’ve read here some dealerships refused to or couldn’t service these trucks when they were in production. I have no faith ford will do the right thing for its customers.
I understand your motivation, however, there is a very real possibility that Chevy/GM will follow along with Ford's decision which is unfortunately based on yesterday's/today's market.

I would be interested in an EREV under two conditions.

1 - Not completely losing the frunk
2 - Must still be able to plug in to charge

If it has both of those, then my day-to-day BEV lifestyle continues, AND I am covered for longer roadtrips to areas that, sadly entering 2026 still do not have good charging options. It would also completely free you from fast charging.

As it sits, the truck is great for 95% of our use, but those edge cases are where it loses its luster.
Yes, losing the frunk would be a deal breaker but I wonder where else they have to package an engine/generator combo??

And yes, if I can let it run out of gas and just use the EV, it'll work for me. I just hate the fact of buying more (like two powertrains) than I need.

Can't say delivering this news was a career highlight for me, and I really appreciate your understanding. At least from my point of view... I'll continue to be in here and provide information and updates for y'all. As I said, I'm not going anywhere.

This is comical -
a small (insignificant) contingent threatens FORD!
For all the disgruntled leaving FORD, FORD will get 10,000 new customers. LMAO
Sad the sober reality is FORD has a very good handle on what needs to be done!.
Good luck with RIVIAN!!!!

I'm most certainly a "no". I'm in my late 40s. My partner is in their mid-50s. We want a chance to retire - at least if we don't have to flee this country. (I'm a triple citizen, so look up the news).

Our goal has always been to pay off all our consumer loans int he next two years, and then our mortgage in the next five to ten. The Truck was (and is) part of our energy security strategy for this place.

Additionally, I've been driving EVs now for just about 20 years. Our last car with an engine was 10 years ago - and that was a vehicle that ended up only ever turning its engine on because IT needed us to -not because we needed it to.

The lightning BEV, our 2017 Bolt EV, and my Vectrix VX-1 (currently off the road) are all the transport we need that isn't human-powered. I've got a deposit down on an Aptera, but I don't hold a huge amount of hope it will turn into an order. We'll see...

But take a truck we almost own and replace it with one that will cause us more pain, suffering, and maintenance costs? Nah. I'm good.

And by the looks of this poll, so many of you are too. I've been asking around some of my contacts at Ford - and let's just say, while they can't say anything negative... I'm inferring a lot of... "Well F...."

Flee the country?
There are many reasons why, but the latest is a proposed bill that you can’t have multiple citizenships. It will likely not pass, but of my passports I’d have to choose one…

Scout Motors is offering their coming SUV and pickup in both formats. EV and EREV. You can have it either way. If what people on this forum keep crying about is truth, we should see a huge majority of Scout orders be for the pure EV version. However, over on the Scout forum there is a spreadsheet tracking pre-orders. Right now it's showing 2,671 reservations and 83.5% of them are for the EREV version. This data is EXTREMELY telling. And, if you scroll through that spreadsheet a lot of those people currently have a Lightning.

Ford Motor Company isn't stupid. They sold a fraction of EV F-150s they expected to sell and today they are seeing the reality of the market. Numbers don't lie.

Do we love the current 3rd Gen F-150 Lightning? Yes. I've said many times that this Lightning is probably the best overall truck I've ever had. Will a range-extended version be even better? Yes.

No -
My XLT, SR is plenty for me. The reason I went with the Lightning was it was BEV only. This is my first electric, hybrid or what ever. I had decided NO ICE, and I have history with the f-150, it just made sense. The main reason I went with lightning is NO Maintenance on a ICE, no matter how small and in my situ, the engine/GenSet will never get used. just to have a tank of stale gas
I plan on keeping my lightning as long as it is feasible, after that, I'll have to see I Will never have a Ram/Hummer, and have never cared for the Chevy interior, I Guess in that case, it might be a GMC product..
At this point FORD is SO wishy washy, they change their mind like their underwear, lots of mixed messages

Sarcasm aside, this is the best summary of the situation I've found. The dealer thing is real.
