Yeah, that "baby battery" is just as critical to the operation of the truck as the "baby battery" in the Mach-E...there are a lot of Mach-E owners who found that out. If that thing is dead your truck isn't going anywhere. And unlike an ICE vehicle disconnecting the 12v battery on a BEV or Powerboost to "reset" the computers doesn't work the way you think it might. The battery won't be under the kind of pressure a normal gas engine battery would be. As you can see it is a baby battery. The location will be of importance to those that need to "reset" the computers if some issues happen maybe. If it is a 10mm then keep one in glovebox.
can you elaborate on that? Why wouldn’t it?And unlike an ICE vehicle disconnecting the 12v battery on a BEV or Powerboost to "reset" the computers doesn't work the way you think it might.
Because some setting you might think would get reset don't actually. They are retained.can you elaborate on that? Why wouldn’t it?
In some ways, yes - in some ways no.The battery won't be under the kind of pressure a normal gas engine battery would be. As you can see it is a baby battery. Lead acid batteries prefer being topped off? Is that why battery maintainers are good for little used vehicles? However, in EV's that baby battery is abused more than a starting battery for an ICE. It's deep-cycled more than a starting battery. It keeps powering the computer controls in the truck while the vehicle is sleeping, until it gets low enough to require a recharge from the HV pack through a DC-DC converter.
This is also why these batteries tend not to last as long as ICE car batteries.
Lead acid batteries like being kept at full charge and begin to sulfate if the cell voltage drops too low (usually if battery isn't kept above 12.4v). Most of them for automotive use are built for minimal use (e.g., as a starting battery only). There are special kinds that are built differently for deep cycling (deep-discharge) but they're more expensive as they use thicker lead plates.Lead acid batteries prefer being topped off? I think I’m getting tow hook bracket for my front license plate.Good shot of the front license plate bracket too!
They don't on the Powerboost because there is a secondary battery under the back seat. I believe it also has to be disconnected.Yeah, that "baby battery" is just as critical to the operation of the truck as the "baby battery" in the Mach-E...there are a lot of Mach-E owners who found that out.
