I'm talking about the little physical button on the outside of the door handle.

I exit the truck, shut the door, and I push that little lock icon button.

About 50% of the time, the marker lights will flash but the truck won't actually lock.

It's not the end of the world because I always carry the key fob, but it would be nice not to have to fish it out of my pocket every time.

Can anyone think of what is causing the button to only work sporadically? Obviously the truck is interpreting something as a condition to where it should not lock the doors....

Mine does this all the time. Sometimes works like a charm (probably less than 50% of the time). Sometimes works only after running boards have retracted and then get redeployed. No rhyme nor reason of why it works sometimes and not others that I can ascertain.

I have intermittent success with it too, make sure you're not touching inside handle while touching the little lock button.

I don't push that button. I just slide my hand across it. Works nearly always.
I will have to give this a try.

If you are touching (or close to) the inside handle sensor in any way, the lock button will not work and the lights will flash. It seems the inside handle touch sensor takes precedence, hence why @shutterbug's hand wave may work better.
Sometimes I give up and press the one on the back door - that usually works for me.

Hi Rich! I can look into your Lightning's lock concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Lightning's VIN?

I've noticed with mine, similar experience, but I really need to push that lock button to get the lock to happen. I'll try the slide method mentioned. It's a pain for me, I'm used to my Toyota or Bolt, which was a touch or slide- no issues with either.

This is the way. I gave up on the door handle button.
Another fun shortcut is once you put your code in, and the doors unlock, if you hit the 7/8 button (immediately after entering your code) the frunk will open.

Sorry—do you just quickly touch and release, or press and hold capacitive lock button on the handle for about 2 seconds? The latter works flawlessly for me.

It's either that, or the bottom two buttons on the door code to lock.

Same here, the door handle lock buttons work 50% of the time.. some time its quick, some times takes a few seconds, some times just don't work and give up and use the door key pad, bottom two buttons at the same time which works all the time. Hitting lock from the phone app some times takes awhile. Key fog always works.
