So I discovered something on my most recent roadtrip (2100 miles in 5 days).... There doesn't appear to be a way to tell the truck to precondition the battery when your 3 year advanced navigation trial ends. (At least on my 2022 Lariat)

  • Normally you can search for fast chargers using the navigation system when in motion. Select the charger and the truck would precondition the battery for you within +/- 30 miles of reaching the charger. -or-

  • You can use the "Public Charging" app when parked to select a fast charger.

Ford F-150 Lightning How to precondition the battery for fast charging when your complementary advanced navigation has expired and in motion? 1758999746206-o6
Does anyone know of a work-around to precondition the battery when in motion?

Don't worry about it, your truck is smart enough to know what to do, just plug in when needed and don't give it a second thought.

I appreciate your reply, but when you are using 3rd party apps like a better route planner, the truck doesn't know when you are navigating to a fast charger. When the temps are lower, this matters on a road trip. Most of the time it doesn't matter with non freezing temps. But I live where it snows, so if would be nice to know if there is a workaround.

BTW, we have other threads which discuss driving in Sport mode or Tow/Haul to cause extra battery cooling, but neither of these techniques seem to work for warming a cold battery in preparation for frigid charging conditions.

Worst case, as @RLXXI said, the truck will take care of itself and you'll just have to wait longer for peak energy flow on long road trips, what's your time worth?

10-4, I'm biased with tropical temps mostly, the only conditioning I do is to the cabin before I get in it. 😁

Navigating to a charger stop in Android auto will supposedly preconditon the battery. I don't know if anyone has tested it to verify for sure.
Oh? I did not know that. I'll have to give it a try! Thanks for the suggestion.

I have tried it and can confirm it works.

You haven't driven in cold temps yet, and may never.

When it is very cold, it can take 10 minutes for the truck battery to warm up enough to charge at the correct speed at a high speed charger. Preconditioning ensures top charging speed upon arrival. Huge difference in speed until the battery warms up. Wasted time.

Is it possible it will work on a fully updated 2022? I just updated my truck via frds and Google Maps is providing info to the drivers instrument cluster (IPC) when navigating.
No, unless a recent update provided that feature. Mine has never worked and Ford confirmed that to me in January.

My 2024 has had Google providing info to IPC but does not EV route nor precondition. So hopefully OP's truck works but it's not absolute.
