Did you ever look into this any further? Where is the 9.6 inverter located? Under the bed? Thanks for the help!
Actually it is a 7.2KW inverter, and it's under the cargo bed of the truck

I have the 9.6kW Pro Power option on mine, so assuming the inverter is 9.6 if you have that option.
There are two inverters with the 9.6 kW option. A 2.4 kW under the frunk that everyone gets and a 7.2 kW under the bed that only those with the 9.6 kW option gets. The 7.2 powers the bed outlet only while the 2.4 powers cabin and frunk. On the 2.4 kW only option it powers cabin, frunk and a couple of outlets in the bed.

7.2 kW + 2.4 kW = 9.6 kW

There are two inverters with the 9.6 kW option. A 2.4 kW under the frunk that everyone gets and a 7.2 kW under the bed that only those with the 9.6 kW option gets. You never mentioned why you were interested in this. Based on your 1st post, I assume you don't like the fact that the bed and/or frunk have to manually be turned on each time and (here's the assumption) was possibly looking for a way around that by tapping into a relay (that doesn't exist)?

That's correct. Actually for two reasons. I use the pro power when camping off grid in winter. Sometimes I use a 6kw 240V space heater. Turning the inverter on with the heater plugged in will arc a relay, and over time was worried it could prematurely fail it, and if the relays aren't replaceable, then maybe I'll turn the inverter on, then the heater, rather than using the truck as a switch. Also, would be nice if all the outlets were always powered on, but now I understand that since there are two inverters, most of the time the 7.2kw inverter is not powered on, which I'm good with.

If you are interested in a bit more detail...

My understanding is the 7.2kW inverter is actually a dual inverter, that is, two 120V inverters that are synchronized to provide the 240V split-phase output, in one physical box.

When you use the 7.2kW PPOB, your display screen will show you how much power is being used by each of the inverters. That can be used to balance the loads if you are using the output to provide backup to you house for example by moving circuits around in your transfer switch. When loads are exactly balance, no net current flows on the neutral and therefore less energy is lost to heat caused by neutral wire resistance, among other advantages.

The other inverter that provides the 2.4kW 120V output is not synchronized with the 7.2kW so you cannot easily combine it with either leg of the 7.2kW output - this was confirmed by someone who looked at the wave forms and reported it in another thread. So if you try to combine them, there would be trouble - over and under voltages due to the wave forms being out of synch.

To get the full 240V, 40A, 9.6kW output the HIS (home integration system provides) provides you would need to connect to the HV battery 400V DC and pass it through an external inverter. The Ford authorized HIS uses a Delta inverter and other circuitry as well as Ford proprietary software to control the HIS.

There is one non-Ford authorized home backup system that seems to work with the Mach-e and Lightning from Sigenergy:

PS: for my needs a $400 transfer switch (GENERAC 6853 for example) powered by the PPOB 240V 30A output is adequate for emergency backup power. The high cost of these V2H systems to get an extra 10A (2.4kW) just isn't worth it to me, but opinions will vary.

All interesting info guys! Thanks for sharing. Just trying to learn more about the truck as I own it. It’s a very versatile vehicle, and does so much more than most people realize. 7.2kW is plenty for me. I’d never have a need for more than that. I’ve powered my house with my central AC on from the 7.2 without issue.

I find it amazing that three transistors working under full wattage changes DC to AC and will last 100k miles. Your concerned about other transistors, but you might not have a worry about them.

Ah, you're right, I was thinking of the dual onboard chargers that 22-23 ER's have. Those are located under the frunk and bed. The ProPower inverters are where you show.

Actually, it's a CONVERTER, which takes the incoming 120v/240v AC power from the EVSE and 'converts' it into DC Power into the battery pack...

the motors also have integral INVERTERS, which take the battery pack's DC output and inverts it into AC Power, to drive the motors, and turn the wheels...

the INVERTERS we are speaking of on this thread are for the electrical OUTLETS around the truck, taking the battery pack's DC Power and inverting it into 120v/240v AC power...

the Primary INVERTER, for stock 2.4kw ProPower, is 120v output, and serves the Frunk outlets, CAB outlets, and, if you don't have the optional 9.6kw package, the two rear bed outlets... all from the same 120v 20amp Inverter. 20 amps x 120 volts = 2.4kw

the Optional INVERTER, for 9.6kw ProPower, is 240v output(whether a true 240v inverter, or a dual-120v combined inverter, doesn't matter - it's the same, regardless), and then serves the 30amp 240v bed outlet, and ALL 4 of the bed's 120v outlets, with 30amp output. 30 amps x 240v = 7.4kw

what's interesting is that testing shows that each of the two 120v bed outlet pairs are on opposing 'sides' of this 240v power, meaning that each set gets 30amps of 120v power. Yes, 30 amps. Now, you might say that is impossible, since these are just 'typical 120v outlets', yet testing has proven this out. It makes sense: Ford has a 30amp 240v Inverter output. Each of the two hot wire outputs, or 'side' of that power, is 120v, and each on the inverter's 30amp fuse/breaker.

but, don't fret, as you're not going to find any device, appliance, or high-amperage tool that is going to have this type of 2 or 3-prong male plug, anyway. But, you CAN try it out if you use several 1500w electric heaters, all on HIGH at the same time.

If you want, you can use a special 'Y' Adapter, too, used for RVs, to plug into each of the pair of 120v outlets to receive 240v power. I've done it. And, pulled 30amps of 240v power, too, from these 'regular looking' outlets.

While some of this stuff is more than most owners will ever care about, it's interesting when you are using the truck for more than 'typical' duties... and, it's great to have those options.
