I had my coolant valve replaced a few months ago. It started giving me issues right before I moved across the country. I had no problems fast charging or driving the roughly 2,500 miles I needed to go. I didn’t notice any sounds or clicking. My dealer diagnosed it, ordered the part while I kept my truck, and it took a few hours for them to replace it (it was their first ever replacement).

Not a huge deal in my opinion but also not great that it failed within 35,000 miles. In comparable years of ownership I have had more trips to the dealer for my Lightning than my previous Ranger. Still like the truck but there are certainly some weak spots.
what do you mean by ”started giving me issues”? HVAC issues? Or your battery wouldn’t warm up in cold weather?…..

Your dealer seems to have it together. I dropped off mine last Wednesday. The confirmed that it was the valve and got the part on Thursday but said they had to do a bunch of software updates. Then they said working on the coolant may take some time and couldn’t finish it by end of Friday. Sounded like they would be done by end of Monday but I didn’t hear anything today either. Service advisor is a tool. Could not get me a loaner and really bad at communication. I am not sure if they misdiagnosed, screwed up something or have other priorities. I had a lot of modules behind so I don’t mind if they are spending time updating any of those that may be required for this fix.

I get you on dealer visits. I judge my ownership experience by how often I have to visit the dealer. The ones close to me have bad reviews so I drive 30 miles to go to this one which makes it more of a pain without the loaner.

I google different cities around the world every once in a while to see which is most accommodating for a car free type of life. A bicycle (not even an e-bike) is an ultimate form of transportation I dream of but never have the courage to switch to.

Update: Got the call this morning from service advisor (3 days after Truck was done and ready). Picked it up this afternoon. It runs OK with no wrench. It cost Ford a little over $900.

They replaced the Coolant Diverter Valve and did pcm software update. They said, they retrieved code P0604 and made reference to TSB 25-2236 - PCM ABS, SOBDMB, SOBDNC, SOBDM, BECM. I don't understand any of this. All I know is that the wrench is off.

Next time it comes on, it most likely will be out of my pocket.

p.s. my battery health drop 0.5 to 97.5% while in the shop.

To your earlier question, I was getting the wrench every time my truck started. I didn’t actually have any perceptible issues driving. If not for the wrench I wouldn’t have guessed anything was wrong. I drove it with the wrench for about a month before I was settled in my new home and could make it to the dealer.

I didn't notice anything abnormal either. I am thinking when the battery is cold during charging, especially fast charging heating it up may reduce long term damage. Also during a drive with cold battery, I may not get as much energy out of it so heating it may give me more energy out than I put in warming it up. I don't have any data. Just guessing here. So if the valve can not help heating the battery properly when it is cold, damage may be more long term.

I recorded some data when I dropped it off. I may try to record some data after the fix in similar ambient and battery temp and see if battery heats up any faster. Here is the before data. It went up 5 degrees in 25 minutes driving 70+ mph.

Has anyone have had coolant diverted valve replaced but didn’t have clicking sound coming out of it. I don’t hear any clicks and my shifter acts OK too. What else can it be?
I noticed clicking sounds 3 weeks ago along with the schedule service soon message. I suspect diverter valve failure also, 73k miles on my ‘22 ER. Earliest available appointment is Monday, made 3 weeks ago. In the meantime I bought the valve online, hoping that’s the issue and they can turn it around same day.

You are doing better than I did at 20K. Good luck.

FDRS confirmed diverter valve failure. I bought the correct part. Quoted 5 hours and $900.
Not thrilled with the price but still cheaper than the extended warranty in Florida.
Thanks to Mullinax Ford in New Smyrna Beach for getting it done today. Heading to San Antonio in the morning.

I got this code too. I give the dealership the code hoping to avoid the diagnostic fee, that didn't work, and I charged $200 for them to tell me what I already knew. But the part they could have told me first was that I was a single month out of date for the 3 year warranty.... Hoping that @Ford Motor Company might help me out and show me mercy. The $1,500 quote hurt my soul.

I had my HV coolant diverter valve replacement around 40K miles. No error but heard the clicking after I turned off the power. Quite an expensive replacement.

It seems like dealers charge like doctors do. $900 for Ford but $1500 for the customer is messed up.

This is obviously a design flaw and should be covered after warranty. The sad thing is that, the new part is the same as the old one and is likely to break again.

I agree this should be covered under the warranty. When I brought it to Ford dealer to inspect, they determined this part was about to fail, and since it's High Voltage related, I couldn't take my truck back for safety reason. I argued, if it is for safety reason and HV related issue, then it should be covered under the HV battery system warranty. My truck ended up stuck in the dealer for 1+ week for repair.

I have had cases in the past that dealer (not Ford) refused to cover something that was clearly a warranty issue. Not sure just because it was inconvenient for them to deal with manufacturer or because they could charge me more. That is why my satisfaction with any car is inversely related to the number of my dealer visits (including purchase).
