Tips for carrying 20 pound propane tanks in the bed?

I often have to carry 20 lb propane tanks to get them refilled for
My heaters and grill. I haven’t found d a good way to keep them from
Bouncing around in my bed. I have tried tension bars and bungee cords, but haven’t found the right solution yet.

I've found that one of the smaller sizes of the ubiquitous black bins can hold two side by side.

I carry a lot of gas/diesel cans around and I run a strap from one side of the bet to the other with the strap threaded though the handles and that does a good job of keeping them upright and from sliding around. I also have one of the ratchet bars to keep things from sliding to the front of the bed.

That's what I use. Fits perfectly and keeps them upright. Also strap will keep them from moving around.

Build yourself a crate out of 2x4s with square grids that exactly fit the propane tanks. Then you just need to strap the crate to your bed however you want.

You said "I often have to carry 20 lb propane tanks". Do you mean plural as in carrying multiple at a time? You can get a pallet for free and cut holes to match the tanks.

Definitely the milkcrate idea. I've got a couple of them and that's the only way I carry my propane tanks now. I don't even strap them down. With the spray on bedliner, there's enough friction that they don't move. I've only got a few miles to a Lowe's where I swap them out, so provided I don't do any redlight launching, I'm good.

The standard fwd bed cleats are low enough to strap them in I think.

I use milk crates from the local dairy. They have the dairy’s name printed on one side and “Thy Shall Not Steal” on the other.
I picked them up at church.

I like to put them in the frunk. It's a nice way to know for sure that if I crash I'll go out with a bang!

Get some ratchet straps and keep em under the rear seats. You'll use them ALL the time when you have them.
