Good Morning Owners,

I have a '22 Platinum. Recently the truck as been playing the low tech 'dot matrix' entry chime sound, the one that kindof sounds like an 80s Japanese car, about 50% of the time on startup. This usually happens if its been raining. This didn't really happen when I first got the truck in late January of this year but in the past two months it is happening now a lot more frequently, even multiple times in one day.

Anyone out there have any similar experiences? Any of the clever owners out there have any thoughts or suggestions? I'd like to troubleshoot this before I raise it with the dealer.

many thanks!

If it's a 22, it's probably time for a new 12V battery.

I mean if you have a 22, I assume you would realize it by now, but pulling into work just now made me realize the only 8 bit sound I've heard from the truck was the parking sensors. Check if the sound occurs in park, if which case it shouldn't be them. Since it only occurs in the rain maybe someone hit one and the sensor or it's wiring are loose.

I have the same issue. I believe it's a 12V battery on its way out.

Mine did that for a month or two, then I replaced the 12v battery, and it's never done it since. Ford replaced it under warranty, but were sure to let me know "the battery tested fine" before they replaced it. I don't think their battery tester is that great.

I have a 2025 and about 1 in five times I get in the truck I get the 2D sounds. It’s a job1 truck manufactured in January. 12V is currently sitting at 13.2V.

I have a 24 ER Lariat. I've had it happen ONLY if I sat in the driver's seat too long before starting the truck. And I think I've had the door open sometimes.

I learned after the first couple of times to turn the truck off and start it again and it would return to the more robust sounds right away. I also didn't have my seat belt on sometimes although I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I've never had the old fashioned sounds if I get in the truck, buckle up and generally start it without a delay. And by delay I guess it's a minute or two. Maybe 3. I don't know as I never really measured it.

And since it went away after a restart every time I'm thinking my 12v is still fine. I would think if an immediate restart still gives me the old fashioned sounds then my 12v might be an issue.

Weird.

I pretty much always jump in and go. That said I also pre-condition and have departure times. So the truck could be running for 10 to 20 minutes before I hop in and go.

Same for me 99% of the time.

Thinking about it more I don't recall if I only had the accessory mode on or the truck fully on when it happened to me after sitting in it. If it was accessory mode and my 12v is on the edge of weakness maybe that triggered 2d sounds after operating for several minutes on the 12v. But I think a power down and immediate start might trigger 2d sounds again right away but it never did. It was always the improved sounds.

I will pay more attention to it, maybe even perform specific tests, and circle back.

I believe this is a Ford "quirk." I've had it happen to me in several Ford vehicles dating back to my 2015 Mustang, several Raptors, my wife's past Explorer, her present Bronco Sport and for sure I've had it many times in my 2025 Lightning. It's happened to me mostly when I turn off the vehicle, exit and return in a short time frame (like less than 10 minutes). Like when we're in northern Michigan, jump out to grab an ice cream and get back in and there it is, just in time for our long ride south. It isn't just the ding-ding of the seat belt chime. It's every chime including instrument panel dings, BlueCruise dings, collision warning dings... they're all that "tinny" cheap sound that come from an instrument panel speaker instead of the interior speakers.

For years, I heard my battery was low potentially. That didn't pan out on any of my vehicles. And yes, I've checked the batteries on all of my vehicles over the years. It's not the batteries.

I've scoured the internet looking for a reason why and a couple of posts seemed to have the most reasonable answer. One said the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) didn't boot up on time. Someone else said the Battery Management System (BMS) needs to be reset and goes on to explain how to do it (key on, flash the high beams, etc.). Neither give me the satisfaction of knowing why and more notable, why it can't be remedied in the last 10 years.

I really love all my Ford products, past and present. This is just an annoyance that has outlived its time.

Anyone from Ford care to respond to this - would be much appreciated.

I recall this happening on my 2012 F250 as well, at random, and that's a truck with two huge 12v batteries in parallel to crank over the Powerstroke.

I'm pretty sure it was things beyond my seat belt too. I just never spent time to examine everything. I think my 12V is fine still and I'm chalking it up to a Ford quirk. If I feel the need I will just do a restart to resolve it.

Never owned a diesel truck but I never realized they were paralleled to just crank the truck 😮 I always assumed it was to warm the glow plugs and to have reserve for accessories and the like.
I don't know what battery types everyone uses but AFAIK most battery testers are only designed to test lead acid and AGM, likely leading to the false positives. Lithium and sodium ions are trixy.
