Well my 2023 built in Dec dodged another bullet again.

Wait a minute. Even if the "software solution" is actually delivered in Q3 2026 (Ford usually seems to be about a quarter late on these things) that means from now until September 30, I am at risk of being stranded if I take my 2022 Lightning on a road trip that requires DC charging to get home?

Realistically, if I drive to Chicago (1000 miles) this means an additional 36 to 48 hours of charging to get home, if I can even find AC chargers along the route that are suitable and will let me park long enough. Pay-as-you go AC chargers, as we all know, are usually only 24 amps.

This bulletin reads as if it was written by an accountant, and one who had never actually driven an EV at that. Or perhaps ChatGPT.

@Ford Motor Company surely there must be some better guidance you can provide. Surely Ford cannot mean to tell us all to limit use of our Lightnings to local trips through the end of "Q3" which we all know from experience may mean Q4 or later. If that's really so, Ford should be offering buybacks, even on these 3-4 year old vehicles - the components in question are still covered by warranty. I would not take one, but I bet others would.

I can't imagine inflicting this kind of thing on its customers even for a cancelled vehicle is going to help sales of the vehicles Ford still offers, much less those it has just announced.

@Ford Motor Company - it's time for Ford to voluntarially extend the HV warranty for 22-23's. I'm confident they'll fix this stuff, but clear that the time and milage are insufficent as-is. Tesla and Rivian are far ahead in what they offer customers of identically priced first generation vehicles, and we see Tesla extending PCS warranties, and even Hyundai extended ICCU warranties when it's clear that engineering needs more time to support customers fairly.

If Ford wants to sell Fathom's and other planned UEVs they need to demonstrate they took care of their earliest adopters.

Sounds like it’s a Y2K-like thing, as there have not been issues DC charging to this point.
We have a Ford EV meet-up in the NW this weekend, with many of the participants DC charging along the way.
Wouldn’t that be special if 20+ Lightnings & MachEs became stranded in central Oregon

Even if it was a true statement and even though most of us love our Ford F-150 Lightnings and many consider it their best truck ever, we need to remember it was not specifically engineered to match the rapid refueling times of gas vehicles on long-distance road trips. Fortunately, some do not care about this extra time and their slower pace when traveling these long distances from home. We should be glad we even have the Tesla option. After reading many of the threads of this forum over the years, the happiest Lightning owners seem to the ones which do NOT tow long distances or travel long distances. This is likely why Ford discontinued it. We need to remember the Lighting was not designed for every truck user. Maybe I said that already.

Well, crap. I don't expect to do any road trip before the end of September, but it's not great to know that I might have a problem if I do. My build date is 1/23. Side note, I had to go thread searching to find out how to determine my build date. So for anyone else that doesn't know, you can look inside your driver's side door jam. The sticker that lists tire pressure has it. It only lists month/year, so not as specific as some have been able to find.

I think there's a hell of a difference in spending 35 minutes to charge every 275-300 miles and spending 4-8 hours every 275-300 miles.

The bottom of the sticker has the original 'intended' build date aka "Blend Date" in this example my truck was scheduled for June 9th 2022, it actually was built eight days later, with final completion on 6/30/2022.

So, as to understand this more. Teslas with the adapter should be good anytime still, but is it the super chargers that are causing this issue? Any help clarifying would be most appreciated. Thanks
