Why isn't the tax credit being given at the point of sale? Are dealer's nervous orangie will tell the IRS not to honor the credit?

Why isn't the rebate being given at the point of sale? Are dealer's nervous orangie will tell the IRS not to honor the credit?
It's a tax credit, not a rebate.

Dealership puts the information in the IRS computer, and the tax credit is approved. THEN, the dealership deducts it from the sale.

If the IRS never accepted the tax credit, then the dealership would never get the $7,500, and they'd be out the money.

Sorry meant tax credit. Edited above.

Same thing just happened to me. Bought the truck on Saturday. Today I get a message to call the GM. He reads me the same thing, says it could be temporary. He says I will have to claim the 7500 on my tax return instead of getting it taken off the truck price.

2 options

1 - redo the deal and increase price by the 7500 (although he is "looking to see what they can do on price")

2 - Take the truck back

I am not holding my breath on being able to claim the tax credit myself. I don't think they will be able to give me the needed "time of sale" document I will need since the system that generates that is not accepting this vehicle.

But the deal is done and they gave you a $7500 credit, right? Not suggest you totally blow him off but they will try a lot harder to resolve it if it's them holding the bag so to speak.

This is a Ford issue and Ford should reimburse him, not you.

They are saying the deal wasn't finalized yet and that they are applying for the credit on your behalf, so it is not their fault the US Government is not allowing it at this time, although it may be a matter of days/weeks before it is once again ok to claim it in the system.

I am currently going back and forth with them to see what they "can do". If they dont eat most of it I will be taking the truck back.

Sounds like Ford needs to send a stronger alert out to dealerships about this issue.

Well, to qoute the Sales Manager/General Manager from my dealer today: "You signed the paperwork, the deal is done. You agreed to it.

If it works for them to us, it should work the same way in reverse.

Yeah -- I went back out there today trying to get some answers. After an email last night and calls this morning no one responded. Not even the salesperson, who up until today was very reachable/responsive.

The final straw was when I went to do the paperwork for the MA MOR-EV rebate... they wanted a copy of the P&S, totally reasonable. So, I go to pull it out of the dealer envelope of papers, to make a copy, and it's missing the entire beginning (addresses, names, VIN, etc.). I looked at what I signed and expected exact copies to be in my envelope. Nope, it was truncated for some reason.

Tried to get ahold of the Finance guy and couldn't, so I just drove out there.

Most definitely. My dealership (Sales Mgr/GM again) tried telling me today they found the EFC (posted above) and told me about it. I made it 100% clear that they did not. They claimed I agreed that I might not get the $7500 rebate and that's why they "are losing $3000 on this deal, to make you happy."

When I asked why they didn't mention the EFC specifically, why they didn't show me the details, or why my salesperson didn't say "Yeah, we saw that the other day", they reverted to telling me I signed the papers and agreed to the deal.

The GM claims she is going to check today/tomorrow (still in the 72 hr window) and then weekly to see if it shows up in the portal.

I'm not holding my breath. Why would Ford/IRS add or allocate a VIN into the system that was already sold before they do whatever they might/might not do.

This whole process is crazy.

Sounds like it's time for you to return vehicle and say I have dicided against the purchase. See if they can't figure how to fix it.

Can't. P&S was/is a binding contract and there's no cool-down period in MA.

If I get lucky, I can claim the rebate on my taxes, and then I'll have saved even more than what I was going to get originally (the supposed $3000 they "lost"). But again, I doubt it.

Edited to fix typo: "can't" to "can"
