ive noticed that whenever i use precondition times or manual auto start and i open the trunk to put my work bag away before getting in, the truck turns off. its a bit annoying but not a big deal. (1st world problems). Was wondering if anyone knew if this was a safetly thing or just another over sight.

I’m sure it is a safety feature. We make light of it but the frunk could actually hurt someone if they are not paying attention. Thus the beeps and shut off features. You know how many tailgate accidents happen from people not paying attention. Lots

From what I have read on other posts this is a carry over form the ICE vehicles where you cannot remote start with the hood open and someone could be in the engine working and you could seriously injury or kill them with a remote start. I totally agree with this safety feature. What doesn't make sense for the Lightning or even and ICE vehicle is if the vehicle is already "running" opening the hood or Frunk does NOT pose a safety risk. For me personally I remote start the truck say when a doctors appointment is ending to cool the truck down. I take my disabled wife out to the truck, load her in, then open the frunk to load the wheelchair and then the truck turns off. There is no reason the truck needs to turn off at this point. Now my wife is sitting is a potentially hot vehicle until I can finish loading the wheelchair and get in the drivers side to "Start" it up. I really do hope this is something they will fix in a future update.

I'm having a hard time figuring out the percieved risk. If you can open the front with the truck running just fine with no risk, why not when it's in remote start mode?

Until the wizards of policy, legal risk assessment weigh in, this inconvenience can be mitigated.

1. Open driver or front passenger, reach over and press the START button.
2. Proceed with loading passengers, stow cargo, etc, in whichever order is most useful.

Just my 2c

Because Ford is using the same module and software that monitors the hood on the ICE trucks. If someone has the hood open and is working on the engine a remote start could be dangerous.

Load wife. Start truck. Load wheelchair.

They don't want people inadvertently(or intentionally) remote starting the vehicle while it's being serviced. Under the frunk tub is access to high voltage components that could be dangerous to a technician if they're working in there or anywhere else in the truck. If they open the hood while working on it then there is less risk.

I find another 'annoyance' with remote start: when I ask the FordPassApp to remote start the truck, the setting is on 'Auto' as for temperature, so the truck senses the temp and uses a good amount of a/c or heat fan levels to make it 'comfortable' for entry/departure.

The issue is that when you get into the truck, you then have to 'start' it, again, which is when the annoyance happens: all the a/c, heat, or fans suddenly go away, and now you are left fumbling to try to turn them back on to what was comfortable as you entered, and now is maybe becoming stuffy and with no air movement, especially in the heat. My wife constantly asks "why does it do that??? If it knows how to make you comfortable BEFORE you get it, why does it suddenly turn everything OFF when you push the GO button??" I agree. Strange.
Ford, let me remote start my truck, and let the truck make it comfortable for me when I enter, but don't then turn all the 'comfort' OFF and have me fumbling to find the settings that were just 'comfortable' a second ago! Even Stranger.

My truck doesn't do what you describe, I have all HVAC functions, set to automatic, I don't switch off HVAC before turning off my truck, simply leave it at my preferred temperature and either AUTO-1, 2 or 3 shut down.

When I remote start, the truck decides based on cabin temp and my setting to activate AC / Heat, aggressively (MAX FAN) cooling or warming the cabin.

When I jump in, hit the start button, the HVAC dials down the fan speed automatically if the temp's already been achieved, or slows the fan speed as the temp's approach set point.

My only complaint is the seat cooling / heating, always runs at max rate cooler blower in particular is noticeable and I need to lower that manually each post remote start session to 1

So this leads me to wonder:
Do you turn off the HVAC before shutting down the truck?
Do you have the HVAC to resume the last status vs. automatic?
As these conditions would cause what you're experiencing, driver induced error.

Probably your HVAC settings. If it's on auto it'll stay on auto.

Even if there is a problem, you simply push the auto button and it fires up.

To add some clarification. Normally to Start you have to press the brake pedal while pushing the Start button.

But if you do a remote start you do not have to press the brake pedal to fully start the truck. The instrument screen will even display a message that you just press Start.

So in your case you or your wife can easily reach over and press the Start button from the passenger side. No need to also press the brake.
