Yeah I went for Computer Science so way above my paygrade. Props to yall for even tackling it. I did at least grab the pinless board after you posted the pic the other day since it looked better. Put in the 120 just for giggles and my dash didn't look like a Christmas tree so heading in the right direction! BTW did you mean ipma above when you said apim?

I did. For some reason I'm dyslexic only when it comes to those two Acronyms. Corrected it so it doesn't cause confusion.

The longer drive went well. The comma unit did crash twice to the comma screen but recovered within a second or two. Steering was a-little bouncy between the lines and did cross over the lines on a few occasions. Still getting the pro collision error, one peddle error and service soon error. These are the codes I am seeing. I also included the cable I am using.

I suspect the cable is the issue.

Alright – a couple of updates before I forget:

  1. I'm cutting off orders for breakout boards starting today. PCBWay has sent me photos confirming the production boards were produced correctly, which means they'll ship in the next couple of days. I’d rather ya'll get the proper design instead of the breakout board workaround. And with USPS shipping times, it's just not worth it anymore. If anything goes wrong for any reason, I’ll reopen orders.

  2. Alan (@Ajzride) and I revisited the USB-C cable discussion offline, and we’ve agreed that going forward, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 and USB4 are the only cables we will recommend. These are the only ones that include the necessary internal connections by specification. (We are working on finding specific cables on amazon that are known to work to recommend).

More updates are hopefully coming soon—we’ve been working on a lot behind the scenes.

Well I'm now the proud owner of a bazillion 360 ohm resisters. Apparently I can't tell the difference between a 2 and a 10 so had it in the wrong holes initially but got that straightened out and all is right with the world again. Only burned my finger once! PCB case and quick disconnect mount should be here tomorrow thanks to @Ajzride

I had USB port shaped burns on my fingertips for awhile after removing connectors for testing. I have just been throwing away the resistors I have used for testing to avoid having to will them to my kids.

So my Comma should arrive tomorrow. Not sure I'll have a chance to mess with it before the weekend but just in case, one question:

I don't want to say too much since I don't have the final version in my hand yet, but make sure you guys are leaving your comma harness box in a somewhat accessible orientation during install.
Is this implying that the upcoming adapter is to be installed at the harness box (IPMA-side) of the OBD-C cable? If so, can my temporary breakout board be installed there rather than at the Comma?

Intended to be heavily implied. If you have the 360 ohm version of the breakout board, it can be installed directly to the comma box.

The 120 versions need to stay up near the comma unit. Unfortunately didn't have the foresight at the time to version the box's in an easily discernable way.

Edit: This is not to say this will 100% be the case with the production boards. Once I have them and can test them, I will confirm.

Good to know. Have mine with the 360 plugged into the harness at the IPMA. Received the 3d printed box for the board and quick connect mount today. Thanks again to @Ajzride. Just have to find time to get it all mounted up now.

Just know you will need additional adapters to make the breakout work connected directly to the comma harness box. You may be able to get away without adding anything if you don't use the comma power, just be mindful of how much strain you are putting on the USB C connectors.

I have been testing some adapters and cables to see what plays the nicest with most installs. It seems a super short USB C male to male may be the answer.

So, in the order from the Comma harness that intercepts the IPMA and moving away from that it goes:

-Harness

-360 ohms resistor between a10-a11 on the breakout board with the a-side plugged into the harness

-Long USB

-Plain coupling (no resistor)

-Short USB

-Comma

Asking because this could really clean up the area around my rearview mirror, it's a nest of cables and resistor box right now. With @Ajzride 's quick release mount I could probably run the long USB right to the mount.

Yeah, that was an additional benefit of moving to the 360 ohm. Since it is essentially being used to tune the canbus' resistance to stop the reflections, it can be added pretty much anywhere on the line.

The trouble with the breakout box is that you have limited space in the kick panel, so it can be interesting to fit it depending on what you did with your usb c slack.

Additionally, unless you want to move your resistor to the other side, you need a cable from the box to the breakout to utilize the proper side. And even with the male side having the resistor in place, without a short cable, your breakout is gonna block the comma power 4 pin.
