No different than having to check the antifreeze/coolant on an ice vehicle
My 10 year old Cadillac tells me if I have low coolant... Also, on Ice vehicles, the temp gauge seems to have more movement to make things noticeable. Many trucks even give you the actual temp numbers. I would even be okay with that.

I think it was smart of Ford to not give too much temp information. Every day you see people ready to lemon law their truck because the guess-o-meter varies by 10 miles. The range of normal operating temps for the battery is huge and most people would not be able to process that. An ICE truck only has about a 20-30 degree F operating range but our batteries can vary by 2 to 3 times as much. A coolant level sensor would be nice though.

Not sure if I agree with you. Not providing info for the fear of getting lemon lawed means you are not confident in your own product. Why would they not have that same fear with ICE trucks? I think you are off on your 20-30 degree ICE normal range. I watched quite a few of TFLtruck torture tests and some of those temps get pretty high and still fall within normal. You may be right about EV batteries being able to withstand more heat/cold but they do have all these coolant loops pumping all the time for a reason. I believe to keep the batteries at their optimal efficiency temp to maximize range. All I am saying is that other then physically checking the coolant level, it may be quite some time before the average person would realize that they lost their fluid. There is warnings about low windshield wiper fluid, low tire pressure, etc... It would be nice to have at least something to warn the driver of this important condition.

The lemon law comment was just a joke to highlight the ridiculous posts about the GOM. I assume Ford is confident that they can detect and deal with the consequences of a low coolant level without monitoring the actual level in the tank so they left out a sensor for cost reasons.

The recommended temperature range for storing and using the HV battery is between 0°C (32°F) and 45°C (113°F). But normally, I think it will try to maintain a temperature between 60-80F when running/charging, so the temperature gauge usually has little movement. An ICE vehicle is running 180-220F and some pressure higher than for the EV system, so a bit more stress on components would worry me more.
Owners have said that they have seen the gauge go up on hot days, but has anyone seen the temperature gauges go down in freezing temperatures?

up here our winters get cold and I have seen the temp gauge blow the halfway point but not at the bottom. When it is low like that it dials back the power until it eventually gets up to temp but on a short commute it never gets to temp. I believe it just dials back the power as the cold won’t do damage unless you have big draws or big inputs like fast charging. It protects itself. And by cold I mean -30 to -35 f.

I’ve got a 23 Lariat ER. My coolant looks green

Can someone share a link what I need to buy from ford?

Edit: mine looks just like the picture in post 4

Looks green
@TaxmanHog cut and pasted the information from the owners manual earlier in this thread, along with a link to the summit racing page for the correct fluid…
They call it “yellow”, but it’s a neon green color when you pour it into the reservoir tank, it is probably called yellow because it’s a different formulation so people don’t get confused but I am not an expert and I don’t play one on TV!🤣😂🤣

lol. You know what. I’ll just tell my people my black lightning is actually orange, and refer to the manual.

Also. Owners manual? That’s just the book of manufacturer’s opinions.

After I had a battery module replaced I had to have my reservoir topped up twice. I think air gets in the system during the module replacement and then burps itself out over a period of time and coolant level goes down.

I have seen the temp gauge be low on very cold days.

Off topic ................. watch your gauges, I just recently noticed they increment up from null to midpoint just as you put the truck in ready to drive mode.

Scratch that observation, it must have been a fluke when I was sending bat-signals to the mothership trying to get OTA's flowing again, the initial animation wasn't there one time and I could see the gauges rise, not able to repeat this morning.

People often insist that my lightning is black, despite me telling them it's (antimatter) blue. Does that count? :)

Just can’t make this up man. I got an inspection done today so I can snag a Ford Protect warranty, and had mentioned to just make sure the coolant system is all good and no leaks because of the empty reservoir. Now I had filled the reservoir to the mid point (top of the M in the MIN) and then these guys go and fill it even more beyond the max

for whatever reason. Dealerships I tell ya.
