At this point the "rumor but also reality" about the discontinuation is probably hurting it more than anything. They haven't said they are discontinuing it but the production line IS halted. So it's a bit confusing to new consumers. Truth is in the middle.

I probably wouldn't be looking to spend 50k on a vehicle that is being discussed about discontinued.

Until they either restart production or openly say they are continuing production, i imagine sales will continue to drop.

Almost a self fulfilling prophecy at this point, which may be what ford is intending.

<1k / month seems a critically low volume.

Anyone know if these sales figures include leases?

Late fall and winter vehicle sales fall off regardless of brand.

Irregardless, the tax credit wasn't for serious buyers, the manufacturers probably ended up worse off with it.

The leasing company is the buyer, so those sales should be in these statistics.

It’s soo funny to see Farley begging the Feds for $7500 for EV tax . $7500 EV tax wasn’t the main reason why people buying electric vehicles, Ask yourself all lightning owners did you say “huh I’m going buy electric car cause I save $7500?” No , electric cars were promising, fun etc . Farley and ford go back and do your jobs , make efficient batteries instead of begging. I believe Ford can afford to pay the tax credit.

Neither you nor I know how many people bought EVs due to the tax credit. You believe something, but have no facts.

I certainly bought my Lariat without consideration of 7.5k credit. As a matter of fact the credit boiled down to $900 bucks for me. Retired with a limited taxable income.

The spike in EV sales in August and September and the huge drop in October answers the question quite clearly.

Speak for yourself. I bought my Lightning because of the tax credit. That year I was going to have to pay the fed, so why not invest in myself rather than give it to “the man”.

I think your blind faith in all of us being “ev evangelicals” is misguided, short sided and a false narrative.

I went EV cause I like to fill up at home at a cheaper cost than gas at the time and WITH the tax credit my XLT was about the same price as a comparable priced XLT gas guzzler.

Not the only factor but certainly one of them when I bought my first EV, a 2012 Nissan Leaf, in 2011.
And i definitely considered it important when buying the much more expensive F-150 Lightning, I waiting until Jan 2024 so I could collect it up front and reduce the hit to my cash flow.

But I am sure there are some people for whom it was not a big factor.

The first law of economics is the price theory. It tells those interested how rational people will behave in response to price changes - price goes up, demand goes down, and vice versa.

So essentially the $7500 tax credit was a price decrease. It was an intentional incentive to encourage people to buy EVs by reducing the price (in accord with price theory) with the big picture goal being to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and, well, save the human race from a lot of coping if not an otherwise well-deserved extinction.

When you have a new administration with antipathy towards EVs, a disbelief in global climate change, and a bunch of big oil money floating around, not to mention a lovey-dovey relationship with terror sponsoring middle-east princes, well, this is what you get.

Anyway, why quibble about what people were thinking, just celebrate that here we are with an EV truck that, in the long run, will save us a lot more than the $7500 up front discount (tax credit).
