My 2024 tried to update last Thursday. It failed got a message to try again at next scheduled time I did a upgrade now but first hooked up my battery tender to the 12v battery the update to 1.4 took 1 1/2 hours

Plus on the EV's, the HVB charges the LVB while the vehicle is being updated to offset the draw caused by the OTA installing.
My understanding is that there is a threshold LVB charge to initiate an update. If the LVB is below the threshold, will the truck still receive an OTA update and attempt to install it at your designated time (and fail)?

What I'm curious about it whether I need to keep my LVB charged up all the time to get an update, or just let it be, and if an update fails, then I put it on a tender so it will (hopefully) successfully install it the next day?

That is correct. If the LVB does not meet the proper specs in terms of charge, capacity, temperature, BMS data quality and perhaps a few other factors, the OTA will not even attempt to install. The OTA trigger (unless canceled by the server) will remain active for 30 days giving the owner time to charge the LVB up.

Where this system fails, is that instead of the vehicle telling you that you need to charge the LVB, it will just say the OTA was "interrupted by another process" leaving owners in WTF land. If Ford would just replace that "interrupted by another process" message with "you need to charge your 12v battery", the OTA process would be SOOOOOoooooooo much better.

I believe adding the battery tender helped to keep the 12 V battery charged for the 1.4 update. I watched the voltage through my car scan the battery tender did a great job of keeping the voltage up automatically.

NO, there is no LVB conditions for "receiving" the update package, but installing it is when the LVB condition can be a barrier, so unless you've been alerted that a new update is pending, no need to "always" be tending the LVB.

I'll take her out for my 1900 hrs coffee run, normally I'd take the Road Glide, but today is special.

Did a few tests of lane changes on a 10 mile loop with curves and hills that used to disengage.

worked all throughout and even did a lane change IN a curve - fun!

Got the BlueCruise 1.4 update notification for our July 12, 2022 merge date Lightning Platinum an hour ago. Drove home, parked and ran the update. It completed successfully.

This update was pushed to my truck today, got notice it didn’t complete, hopefully it gets it done tonight!
Well it never updated, got notice today that there was an update to install and it was the Frunk update. That successfully installed and now the truck started downloading the blue cruise update again and says it’s ready to install. Hopefully this is it!
