I think there's a big difference between a legit concern, or even "power steering failed, could have crashed" and "my truck tried to kill me !", that's all.

A complete power steering failure is obviously much worse than fighting lane assist, if that is what happened. But even so, it is usually not completely frozen /
unmaneuverable at that point (think we would have seen a lot more lawsuits if that was the case), but I suppose anything could happen, especially if the driver panics.
I’ll bite my tongue now. I got chased out of this forum for going toe-to-toe with some dude over something very trivial.

The man was scared. He’s entitled to use a little hyperbole. Safe to say he doesn’t think HAL took over his truck.

Thankfully, I'm strong enough to overpower the 1's and 0's of a failed steering system that is capable of driving the truck without human input.

It's much more than a "concern" when the truck tries to steer you off the highway.
This is beyond terrifying to think about. If my wife read this post she’d probably not let me take ownership. Mine was built on 8/25 and I’m still waiting for it. My current truck is tried and true and for what it’s worth—has never tried to kill me. I really hope —when you get to the bottom of this problem,—you’ll let us all know What it is.
BTW, which model do you have? And when was it built?

This isn't just "power steering failure". I've driven a heavy car with a failed power steering rack. If it suddenly stopped working at highway speeds, I wouldn't have even noticed. Most variable assists almost entirely disable assist at highway speeds, precisely because so little effort is needed to turn the wheel at speed and so little steering wheel turning arc is needed when you're moving at that speed.

It sounds like his truck's power steering system actively commanded steering direction changes that were not the result of any steering inputs on his part. That is as close to "my truck tried to kill me" as I can think of. I get that a lot of people like to exaggerate, but if what he's saying is accurate and true, this was a seriously dangerous event.

I find it very unlikely that the forces involved to overpower active steering that's gone haywire would be higher than that of a failed power steering setup for the simple reason that they have to design things for when things go wrong, not if, and in those instances someone with a moderate build should still be able to control the vehicle. If not it would truly be a case of the vehicle "trying to kill them" and a gazillion dollar lawsuit waiting to happen and I find it equally unlikely that someone would be willing to take that risk thinking it'll never happen / fail.

A failed mechanical hydraulic power steering system almost always fails in the "unassisted" mode, meaning the pump fails which means there is no longer any fluid pressure to operate the rack or steering gear. This would present as very high steering effort at low speeds, while steering wheel feel at speed would feel pretty much normal as assist is pretty much disabled at high speed.

The rack on the Lightning however, and all 14th generation F150s, is an electric rack. This is an entirely different setup that uses an electric motor, position and force sensors and control module to determine steering direction and assist. If the module were to fail or the sensors were to malfunction, unlike the hydraulic system, it wouldn't simply default to no assist, it could suddenly command rapid steering input, even at highway speeds. This electric motor is capable of very high amounts of torque, which is needed to direct the steering rack under a heavy truck even when stationary. If it were to malfunction, and move against intentional steering inputs instead of with, it's quite capable of overpowering a person.
