Pro Power Onboard - Overnight

I have a 2023 Lariat ER with the 9.6Kw ProPower and I just had it on Thursday night for a power outage about 9:45 PM and it stayed on powering our house the entire day until power came back on. (I have a generator port for the house that works with the rear twist lock.)

I had no issues all night - ran the house minus the HVAC and water heater, but did include the well pump and lights microwave, coffeemaker home Network and computers etc.

I left the truck on, activated ProPower, turned off HVAC and locked it. Started with 80% SoC and ended after almost 23 hours at 60%.

In practice is expect there is very very little difference between Pro Power with truck off and Pro Power with truck on. I expect the only practical difference is the screens. Aside from that you can manually turn off the HVAC and radio. Pro Power itself will still mandate that most of the rest of the systems remain active, specifically the cooling loop and fans. The Pro Power inverter is liquid cooled so the same coolant loop will be active truck on or off. The same is true of the security of the truck. It cant drive without the key so on or off its the same effort to steal the truck.

For those that use propower infrequently, you may be right. For those of us that use it for work daily, not having to go through a checklist umpteen times a day would be nice. I connect and disconnect from job sites several times per day. turn everything off, turn everything on. repeat, repeat, repeat. That routine gets tiresome really quick day in and day out.

I was looking forward and begging for an update but the constant 90w load is ridiculous and unusable. We use it to run tools like saws, small compressors, chargers, etc. These things don't stay on all the time and plenty of instances of no use for 15min at a time. I expect this level of thinking from start-up companies, not Ford, who should know how we use our work trucks. I'm starting to give up on this thing. Does anyone know if the other EV trucks have similar limitations or jumping through hoops with their outlets?

I had a Denali EV for a weekend to evaluate. Their onboard power is superior to the Lightning's in every way. It can be used with the truck off and even has a timer setting which is perfect for us. We power our house every day and want to turn it off right before midnight and then charge the truck for nearly free until 6 am. Best part is when my wife trips the truck by running too many kitchen gadgets when the AC is running it just blips the auto transfer switch and then resets itself. We don't have to go out to the truck to reset anything.

GM's downfall is their software isn't being updated and new features are only being put on the new model year. Lot's of angry people driving 2025 Escalades and Denalis that won't even get PAAK which is coming on the 2026 models. Same with the Supercruise updates. Ford at least is trying with the OTAs.

I can confirm that the outlets do not stay on with all of my Apple devices plugged in. I guess the min draw is real. This is really annoying that I have to leave the truck on all night. I started the truck and disabled the shut off timer. I do have it plugged in and charging at the campground.

Err, you just leave it running and hit the HVAC button.

If you are starting and stopping the truck multiple times its maybe what, one more button press than turning "continious" on. I dont think there is a complicated "checklist" needed every time here.

Errrr. You need to turn off HVAC, turn off the radio, and the most time consuming, cover the screens so the vehicle does not look like its on. Even though the cooling loop fans are running bringing a criminals attention to look into the truck and see fabric covering the screens. That doesn't look suspicious at all. The point is. As other manufactures magically figured out on their first try, It doesn't have to be this way. I've got an idea. Why not allow propower with the truck off and not invent new needless limitations.

I get it. You don't have to deal with it so it's not a big deal to you and that's great. But guess what. It's a big deal to me because I live it several times a day. Telling me that it's not a big deal does not change that. All it does is tell Ford that details and their poor implementations are okay because hey it's not a big deal to shut off your HVAC and your radio and cover your screens several times a day.

Even that might cycle off for more than 6 minutes once it reaches temp - causing PP to shut off.

Yes, I have a 2024 Lariat and PP is enabled while the truck is OFF.

Does PP stay on if no load is connected when using PP with the truck turned off?

If I have my truck connected to my house when power goes out, PP stays on because there is sufficient current draw.

But when I have only my powered cooler powered the PP turns off shortly after the cooler reaches temperature setting or the current draw drops below 90 watts.

For 2024+ models, PPO will turn off if the truck cannot detect a load greater than ~90W for more than 10 minutes while the vehicle is off. You can work around this by keeping the truck in ACCESSORY (no brake + power button) mode or ON (brake + power button) mode, but it comes with a risk:

The vehicle is in drive-off condition.
You will have to manually turn off lights.
You will have to manually turn off climate control.
You may want to cover the displays.

It's likely an attempt by engineers to cut off parasitic losses while the truck is off, but they didn't take into consideration the fact that most PPO use cases are loads that are intermittent in nature.

"Keep on when vehicle is off" is a poorly executed feature by Ford. Tesla and GM do this much better.

The truck cannot be driven unless you leave the fob (phone if using PAAK) in the truck.
